The Leagues Cup will get a big boost this season. This year’s event will feature the debut of Lionel Messi with Inter Miami. The competition, which was started in 2019 as a competition between Liga MX and MLS teams, will be contested for the third time. 

The 2020 edition was canceled by the pandemic, while the 2022 edition was held as exhibition matches because there were too many matches on the calendar due to the World Cup and other factors. Liga MX and MLS will hope this allows each league to compete for bragging rights with one another.

Messi won’t be coming to MLS alone. He will be joined by former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in South Beach. When it comes to how Messi’s debut will impact the odds, Inter Miami is +125 on the three-way moneyline, while Cruz Azul is +215.

New England may be too focused on its position in the MLS standings to be worried about the Leagues Cup. Sitting in second place in the league, the Revolution may want to get a look at some younger play in Leagues Cup action.
