Top 2021 MLS Matches to Bet On: Playoffs Are Getting Closer

After limited Major League Soccer action last weekend during the international break, the league is back with a full slate of action this weekend.

Most teams have just six games left to play this season, so this is crunch time as far as the playoffs are concerned. Let’s take a look at some of the most important games on the MLS schedule this weekend so you can wager against their MLS odds.

Top MLS Games to Watch and Wager On the Week (Oct. 16th – 17th)

Nashville SC vs DC United

  • When: Saturday, October 16th

Both of these teams hope to be playoff-bound this year, but in the Eastern Conference, no team but New England is safely in just yet. At home, DC is a slight favorite in this game at -103, while second-place Nashville has a moneyline of +250.

DC United has only a one-point cushion in the playoff race, so they can’t afford to drop any points, especially at home. They’ve won two and lost two over their last four matches, with Ola Kamara scoring just one goal during that span, so they’ll surely need that to change against a Nashville team that’s given up the second-fewest goals in the league this year.

With such a great defense, Nashville rarely walks away empty-handed. On the other hand, they’ve also suffered three straight draws.

Atlanta United FC vs Toronto FC

  • When: Saturday, October 16th

This game offers Atlanta the perfect opportunity to jump back into the playoff picture. They currently sit eighth in the Eastern Conference but are just one point behind three different teams for the final playoff spot. They are also road favorites with a +119 moneyline, while Toronto’s moneyline is set at +200.

For Toronto, the season is all but over, although nobody has told the Reds because they have three wins and a draw in their last four matches. That could make this a tricky game for Atlanta, which has lost back-to-back road matches, including one in Montreal two weeks ago.

Seattle Sounders FC vs Houston Dynamo

  • When: Saturday, October 16th

These teams may occupy opposite ends of the Western Conference standings, but you wouldn’t know that based on the betting odds. The first-place Sounders are underdogs at +180, while Houston has a moneyline of +140 despite being second from the bottom.

The catch is that the Sounders have already clinched a playoff spot and could rest some key players. On the other hand, Seattle beat Vancouver 4-1 last weekend without several key international players available, so even a watered-down Seattle lineup can do some damage.

Meanwhile, the Dynamo is winless in three straight matches and almost out of the playoff race entirely.

New York City FC vs New York Red Bulls

  • When: Sunday, October 17th

Sunday is Derby Day in New York, with NYCFC crossing the river into New Jersey to take on the Red Bulls. This match takes on extra importance, with NYCFC occupying one of the last playoff spots and the Red Bulls sitting just three points behind them.

Winning this game would be huge for the Red Bulls, who have a +146 moneyline compared to NYCFC at +180. This is the third meeting between the teams in less than a month, with the clubs moving in different directions.

The Red Bulls are unbeaten in six matches, giving up just two goals during that stretch, while the Pigeons have failed to score in three straight matches, including a 1-0 loss to their rivals.
