The Rams lead 44-38-2. Since taking over as head coach, Sean McVay’s Rams have not lost to the Cardinals, winning eight in a row. The Rams have outscored the Cardinals 251-91 over the past four seasons. That is the greatest point deficit McVay’s Rams have had against NFC West opponents: 49ers (216-215, 49ers) and Seahawks (240-183, Rams).

The Cardinals trailed the winless Jaguars at halftime last Sunday but won 31-19. MVP candidate Kyler Murray completed 28-of-34 passes for 316 scoreless yards and one interception, adding seven carries for 19 rushing yards and one touchdown. The Cardinals did all of their scoring via three rushing touchdowns, the first coming from Murray on a play-action boot from one yard out in the first quarter to get the scoring started. James Conner then rushed for a pair of short scores. Murray now has 1,005 passing yards in 2021, third in the NFL behind only Tom Brady and Derek Carr. He is the first quarterback in Cardinals history to throw for 1,000 yards within the first three games of a season. In the past two weeks, and his completion percentage of 80 plus in back-to-back games is also a first in franchise history. Arizona is 5-12-1 with Murray as its starting quarterback when down nine points or more. Two of those wins have come in the past two weeks. A.J. Green caught 5-of-6 targets for 112 yards, his first 100-yard game since Week 7 of the 2018 season with Cincinnati. Star wideout DeAndre Hopkins (ribs) was playing at less than 100%, and he missed some practice time this week but will play. With a single reception on Sunday, Hopkins will extend his streak to 130 consecutive games with a catch, giving him at least one in every game of his career. Sunday will mark the 10th time Hopkins has faced Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey in six seasons. According to Pro Football Focus, Hopkins has an 88.7 receiver grade on 72 targets, for 37 catches, 444 yards, and two touchdowns all-time against Ramsey. Byron Murphy had two interceptions against the Jaguars, the first coming in the red zone to short-circuit a certain scoring drive for Jacksonville, the second a 29-yard return for a touchdown that gave the Cardinals a lead they never relinquished. Murphy also had four tackles and two passes defensed in the game. Murphy was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Murphy only had one interception in his first two NFL seasons combined. Arizona has scored 34.3 points a game and only given up 21.6 points a game this year. While the Cardinals averaged those numbers against three teams with a combined 2020 regular season record of 19-29, the Rams have faced three opponents that went 30-18 in 2020.

The Rams knocked off the Super Bowl champion Bucs 34-24 last week. Matthew Stafford finished 27 of 38 for 343 yards and four touchdowns, Cooper Kupp had nine catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns and Jackson three receptions for 120 yards and one touchdown to help the Rams remain undefeated. Tight end Tyler Higbee (five receptions for 40 yards) accounted for Stafford’s other passing touchdown. With Darrell Henderson Jr. (ribs) inactive, Sony Michel carried the load at running back with 20 carries for 67 yards, both team-highs. Henderson is expected to play this week. Kupp has amassed 25 receptions for 367 yards and five touchdowns through the Rams’ first three games. His 367 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns, currently lead the NFL, while his 25 catches are tied with the Packers’ Davante Adams for most in the NFL. Kupp is the only player in the league with at least 95 receiving yards in each of the first three weeks of the season and is one of four players with a touchdown reception in each week. He was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month. Kupp would need 169 yards Sunday to tie the record for most receiving yards through four weeks to start a season. It is currently held by Washington Commanders WR Henry Ellard, who in 1994 had 536-yards by the end of Week 4. Stafford currently is ranked fifth in the NFL in passing yards with 942-yards, and tied for second behind QB Tom Brady in passing TDs with nine. Stafford’s nine TDs to one INT is the best TD to INT ratio through his first three games in his 13-year career. The Rams are the first team to start the season 3-0 against three playoff teams from the previous season since the 2007 Green Bay Packers did this. Coach Sean McVay is 3-0 for the third time since he became head coach in 2017. The Rams have not allowed any first quarter points this season, and they have scored first in every single game. They have only trailed 2:04 minutes all season.
