Horse Racing Betting Analysis, Odds & Picks for July 14th – 17th

Top Stakes Races for the Week

  • When: Thursday, July 14 – Sunday, July 17

Saratoga | Thursday, July 14

  • Grade 3 Schuylerville – 6 furlongs dirt – 2 year old fillies

The Schuylerville is the first major summer race for two-year-olds, which explains why at least nine runners should enter the starting gate. Mark Casse plans on saddling three: Janis Joplin, Me And My Shadow, and Adora. If you’re looking for the winner, handicap the Casse horses first.

Saratoga | Friday, July 15

  • Grade 3 Forbidden Apple – 1 mile turf – 4 year olds and up

A full field of 13 plan on running in this year’s Forbidden Apple. Chad Brown trained runners Analyze It and Public Sector will demand attention. So will Set Piece from the Brad Cox barn. But the horse everyone will watch is Art Collector. The 2021 Grade 1 Woodward winner goes turf to dirt for Bill Mott.

Saratoga | Saturday, July 16

  • Grade 3 Sanford – 6 furlongs dirt – 2 year olds

The Schuylerville showcases two-year-old fillies. The Sanford showcases two-year-old colts. Steve Asmussen saddles possible favorite Roman Giant. It took Roman a few tries, but he broke his maiden in his last

Mark Casse trained Boppy O broke his maiden at first try running over the Gulfstream Park dirt. Boppy O is a Bolt d’Oro sired equine from a Scat Daddy mare.

Other potential runners include Valenzan Day from the Rudy Rodriguez barn, Jeff Englehart trained Puttheblameonme, and Prove Right trained by James Chapman. Anthony Dutrow puts the saddle on I’m Wide Awake and Tom Amoss will run Curly Jack.

  • Grade 1 Diana – 1 1/8 miles turf – 4 year olds fillies and mares

Chad Brown will saddle four equines to run in the Grade 1  Diana. No doubt, horseplayers will settle on Rougir as the top choice. The other three Brown runners are Technical Analysis, In Italian, and Bleecker Street.

Brendan Walsh sends out Ocean Road and Albert Stall Jr. will enter Dalika. Creative Flair, from the Charles Appleby barn, will attract a ton of attention. The filly won the Grade 2 Balanchine at Meydan in her last.

Saratoga | Sunday, July 17

  • Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes – 5 ½ furlongs turf – 3 year olds

So far, connections for just three horses plan on entering and running in the Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes. Cristophe Clement, who heads to Saratoga after a fantastic Belmont meet, puts the saddle on Slipstream. Greg DiPrima plans on running Carpe’s Dream and Wesley Ward goes with Asymmetric.

The Clement runner last raced in the Grade 1 Commonwealth at Ascot. This field, even after others join, isn’t close to being as strong as the Commonwealth. So expect Slipstream to attract action.
