The Wild Card Weekend, which was indeed a wild affair, is now in the rearview mirror, which means that it’s time to move on to the Divisional Round in the playoffs. With that, we get the #1 seeds in both conferences coming into the picture. The playoffs look a little different this season, with 14 teams instead of 12 making in in and only the #1 seeds getting a bye in the opening round. Those teams are the Green Bay Packers and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. They will both be at home all the way to the championship game, assuming they win out, but will both of them make it there? The bookies see this as the most likely matchup, setting a Packers Vs Chiefs Super Bowl at +300 on the betting board. Let’s take a look at what they both need to do to make it happen so you can plan ahead your bets and place them against their Super Bowl odds.
Will the Chiefs see the Packers in the Super Bowl LV?
Kansas City Chiefs Road to the Super Bowl
Given the teams that still remain in the AFC, it’s certainly fair to suggest that the Chiefs have the tougher road of the two. The toughest matchup is likely to come in the AFC Championship Game, but that is something we will get to in a moment. This weekend, it will be the Cleveland Browns coming to town fresh off a stunning upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers. While the Browns win was unexpected, it did come against a Pittsburgh team that had lost 4 of their last 5 in the regular season. The Chiefs have had no such issues and are unlikely to be as gift-giving as the Steelers were last weekend. I think the Chiefs win this one and move on.
Next up would be either the Buffalo Bills or the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. The Chiefs faced both of these teams in the regular season and won both games. They handled Baltimore quite easily, winning 34-20 on the road, and then won on the road in Buffalo a few weeks later, winning that one 26-17. They are going to be at home whomever they meet in the Championship Game, so you do have to like their chances of winning and making the Super Bowl.
Green Bay Packers Road to the Super Bowl
The Packers finished the season as the #1 seed in the NFC with a 13-3 record and they may have been handed the best matchup possible in the Divisional Round. Despite having some serious injury issues at the QB spot, the LA Rams somehow managed to go into Seattle and pull out the upset against the Seahawks. The Rams have won just 1 of their last 6 meetings with the Packers, so taking that and their injury woes into account, you have to like Green Bay to move on.
That is where things get tricky for the Packers, as they would then need to face either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the New Orleans Saints. The Packers beat the Saints 37-30 on the road in an absolute thriller earlier in the season, but they were blown out 38-10 on the road by the Bucs a few weeks later. They would need to be at their very best to beat either of these teams, so I’m not so sure that they are a lock to be in the Super Bowl.
