Liverpool dominated to win the 2019-2020 English Premier League. Manchester City dominated to take the 2020-2021 Premier League. But the Sky Blues and Reds aren’t the only two teams with a shot at next season’s championship. Check out a list of the top contenders, second-tier contenders, and underdog contenders who can win the 2021-2022 EPL so you start planning your bets against their Premier League odds.
English Premier League: Will Manchester United Win the Championship in 2022?
2021-2022 English Premier League Season
- When: August 14, 2021 – May 22, 2022
Top Contenders
- Manchester City
Unless something drastic happens, Pep Guardiola’s squad is well-positioned to take their second straight title. Everything on Man City starts with awesome Kevin De Bruyne.
Most believe that right now De Bruyne is the best player in the world. He’s surrounded by talent and Pep knows how to get the most out of this team.
- Chelsea
Former Paris Saint-Germain skipper Thomas Tuchel fits Chelsea like a glove. Since Jan. 26 when Tuchel became manager, the Blues have become one of the best club teams on the planet.
Chelsea has 17 wins, 6 draws, and 2 losses under Tuchel’s watch. They battle rival Manchester City in the Champions League Final on Saturday, May 29. Tuchel, no doubt, will get an extension, which means the Blues should contend next season.
- Manchester United
Sports franchises like United don’t stay down for long. The team that calls Old Trafford home should finish second in this year’s English Premier League.
Expect Man U to make a big move this summer. They’ll manage a transfer for Kylian Mbappe, Ronaldo, or someone who can help them win a title.
Harry Maguire may be the best backer in club soccer. Paul Pogba is awesome and Marcus Rashford is twenty-three years old. So, yes, Manchester United can win the EPL next season.
Second-Tier Contenders
- Liverpool
Surprised that Pool is a second-tier contender? Don’t be. The Reds had a disappointing season in every way imaginable.
As of May 12, the 2020 champs have 57 points. Manchester City, Manchester United, Leicester City, Chelsea, and West Ham United, yes, West Ham, are ahead of Liverpool on the EPL standings.
The Reds are talented enough to have a great bounce back season. But their fall in 2020-2021 was so dramatic, we can’t put them into the top-tier.
Underdog Contenders
- Leicester City
With 66 points, Leicester should finish in third-place this season. LC will require some help to win the EPL next season because unlike Arsenal and Tottenham, the other two teams in this category, they won’t attract a star player. But Leicester fights as hard or harder than any team in the EPL. So if you believe in miracles, and LC pulled one off in 2016, why not?
- Arsenal
The Gunners have 55 points. However, even though Arsenal won’t finish in the Top 4 and grab a UCL bid, they have played great in the Europa League this season, which should set them up for a decent English Premier League run. If the Gunners can attract a central midfielder, a winger, a midfield playmaker, and a right-back, they will contend. That’s a big ask, but Arsenal is a classic EPL power. So the Gunners could pull it off.
- Tottenham
The Hotspur must find a full-time manager. That’s the key for Tottenham heading into the 2021-2022 English Premier League Season. On paper, this team is solid. They’ve got talent at every level.
Since firing Mourinho on April 19, the Hotspur have shown flashes of being a contender. The 1-goal loss to Man City on April 25 inspires. So does the 4-0 victory against Sheffield on May 2.
If Tottenham makes the correct managerial move, they could challenge for the EPL title..
