Prior to the start of every NFL season, we all have an idea as to which teams are likely to compete and which ones will be looking at the top pick in the draft next year. In between those teams are a group that is either destined to be in the middle of the pack or in the process of making their way back after a rebuilding effort. Those are the teams that are the toughest to figure out, as we usually see one or two emerge as a dark horse as the season progresses. Given what has gone down in recent years, most are of the belief that the New York Jets will be down near the bottom of the pack, but could a new coaching staff and a new QB help turn things around? Let’s take a closer look at the 2021 version of the New York Jets so you can start planning your bets against their NFL odds.

The Jets in 2020
If we are being totally honest, there were not a lot of people who believed that the Jets would have a breakout year in 2020. That said, not a lot of people probably predicted just how bad things were going to be in the Big Apple. The Jets were absolutely awful and ended up winning just 2 games on the season to finish at 2-14.
The most surprising aspect of last season was that the Jets waited until it was all over before finally firing head coach Adam Gase. We all knew then that it might also mean the end of the road for QB Sam Darnold, and while the Jets initially talked him up, they eventually did pull the trigger and send him put of town, paving the way for their #2 pick in the draft.
Odds to Make the Playoffs and Win the Super Bowl
With the 2nd pick in the 2021 NFL draft, the Jets decided to take another shot at landing a franchise QB, taking Zach Wilson out of BYU. All signs appear to point to him being the starter this season, so we can probably expect some serious ups and downs, which is usually the case with most rookie QBs in the league. For the first time in quite a while, there is some hope for the Jets, but those expectations probably need to be tempered just a bit. After a season where the Jets won just 2 games, the only way to go is up, but how high they go will depend on a whole host of different factors. The bookies see the Jets chances of making the playoffs as follows:
As those odds clearly show, the chances of the Jets making the postseason seem rather slim. They do have an opportunity to get off to a winning start, with the Panthers, Broncos, and a game in London against the Falcons all coming in the first 5 weeks. The Jets get a bye in Week 6, so they will have a long slog to the end of the season after that, which could be a problem for a team with a rookie QB. Realistically, a 6-win season for the Jets might well be seen as a respectable first year for the new coaching staff.
There is absolutely zero chance that the Jets are winning the Super Bowl this season, which is why they are currently listed at +8000.
