NHL Stanley Cup Betting Update: Possible Title Matches to Wager On this 2024 Season

NHL Stanley Cup Betting Update: Possible Title Matches to Wager On this 2024 Season

The 2023-24 NHL regular season has a little over a month to go with it ending on Thursday, April 18, and the playoffs beginning on April 22. We believe that the Stanley Cup Final matchup will be one of the five below. Let’s break them down with exact matchup NHL odds

Toronto vs. Edmonton (+4000)

How crazy would Canada be if two teams from that country were in the Stanley Cup Finals? No team from Canada has won the Cup since Montreal in 1993. This would be a fantastic offensive series matching arguably the two biggest stars in the NHL in former No. 1 overall picks: Toronto’s Auston Matthews, who is on track for a 70-goal season, and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid. Both are among the favorites for the Hart Trophy for league MVP with Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon. Matthews sits one tally shy of becoming the first player in Maple Leafs history to reach 55 goals multiple times in his career. The only active player currently with multiple 55-goal campaigns is Washington’s Alex Ovechkin (2007-08 & 2008-09). These teams have played once this season on Jan. 16 in Edmonton and the Oilers won 4-2 – their 11th straight win at the time. Matthews had a goal to help Toronto get out to a 2-0 lead. The clubs play again on March 23 in Toronto.

Florida vs. Colorado (+1700)

As of this writing, Florida leads the NHL in points as it chases the Presidents’ Trophy, although winning that has been a jinx in terms of also winning the Stanley Cup for many years. The Panthers have never won a Cup but reached the Finals for the second time last season, falling in five games to Vegas. That Florida team got there via a wild card, while this year’s team might have home-ice advantage throughout. The Panthers might have the best goalie in the league at the moment in Sergei Bobrovsky, who as of this writing has given up two or fewer goals in 12 straight games, posting a 10-2-0 record, a 1.57 GAA and a .945 save percentage in that span. If the Cats get that type of play in net, they have plenty of offense. Florida is 29-1-4 when scoring the first goal, the best record in the NHL. Colorado of course won the 2022 Stanley Cup but then flamed out in the first round of the 2023 playoffs. The Panthers swept this season’s series by scores of 8-4 and 4-0.

Boston vs. Vegas (+4600)

Riding surprise goaltending hero Adin Hill, the Golden Knights won their first Cup last season by ousting Florida in five games in the Finals. Vegas didn’t have to go to a Game 7 in any playoff series. Jonathan Marchessault, who ended the postseason with a 10-game points streak, received the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP. Vegas might have to take the wild-card route to the playoffs this season, however, as it sits fourth in the Pacific Division and holds the West’s final WC spot. Vegas is without star forward Mark Stone for the rest of the regular season at least with a lacerated spleen. He also missed the final 39 games last season before returning for the Cup run, finishing with 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 22 postseason games. Boston is neck-and-neck with Florida for the Presidents’ Trophy and Atlantic Division title. This season’s series has been split, each winning by a goal at home.

NY Rangers vs. Dallas (+3100)

This matchup would feature two of the NHL’s best goaltenders in Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers and Jake Oettinger of the Stars. New York’s Artemi Panarin is close to becoming the first player in Rangers history to reach at least 90 points in three consecutive seasons. Teammate Mika Zibanejad became one of just six Swedish-born players in NHL history with nine 20-goal seasons earlier this week. The Rangers are leading the Metropolitan Division, while the Stars are atop the Central. Dallas ranks second in scoring in the NHL in scoring at 3.62 goals per game and is 18-13-4 when trailing first in a game this season, which leads the league. They have split the season series.

Carolina vs. Winnipeg (+3100)

Carolina was a big winner at last week’s trade deadline in landing winger Jake Guentzel from Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old had 22 goals in 50 games this year with the Pens and gives the Hurricanes a proven goalscorer who thrives in the postseason spotlight. Guentzel has reached the 40-goal plateau twice in eight seasons and has 58 points (24 goals, 34 assists) in 58 playoff games. His 13 goals during the 2017 playoffs led the league and helped the Penguins become the first team in nearly 20 years to win back-to-back Stanley Cups. Winnipeg has the Vezina Trophy favorite in Connor Hellebuyck. He is 30-14-3 on the season and established a Jets/Thrashers mark for fewest games to 30 wins in a campaign, eclipsing his previous best set in 2017-18 (48 games). Hellebuyck is the sixth active goaltender to post at least five 30-win seasons. Winnipeg won the season series 2-0.

2022 NHL Stanley Cup Betting Update: 3 Possible Title Matches to Wager On

NHL Stanley Cup Betting Update: Top 3 Possible Title Matches to Wager On

There is a reason why there are no mid-season prizes or awards given in professional sports. The reality is that a great first half of the season is no guarantee of future success, as history has shown that teams who got off to a great start aren’t always able to go the distance. That is just one of the reasons why making predictions about the finals is never really a great idea when you still have half a season to play. Good idea or not, that is what we are going to do with the NHL as they get ready to head into the All-Star break. We are going to pull out the old crystal ball and see if we can look ahead to the Stanley Cup Final to see who might be taking part there. We are going to come up with 3 different scenarios, with hopes that one of them is correct so you can bet against the Stanley Cup odds.

Tampa Bay Lightning Vs Colorado Avalanche

This, to me at least, seems like the most plausible Stanley Cup Final matchup based on the current standings, as well as a couple of other factors. The Tampa Bay Lightning came into this season as the defending Stanley Cup champion, so this is a team that knows how to get the job done once the postseason rolls around. The Lightning are currently 2nd in their division, but they also have one of the best records in the league right now. The Avalanche are the current favorites to win it all in 2022 and for very good reason. This is a team that has not been at its best in the playoffs, but this season feels different. The Avs are winners of 10 In a row right now and are far and away the best team in the Western Conference. This would be a fantastic matchup.

Florida Panthers Vs Vegas Golden Knights

While you have to give love to the Lightning for what they have done to this point in the season, it is worth mentioning that they are still 5 points off the pace being set by the Florida Panthers. If you have yet to see Florida play this season, you really need to make a point to do so, as they are one of the more exciting teams in the league. They are already closing in on the 200-goal mark and are an offensive juggernaut. Outside of the Colorado Avalanche, there does not seem to be a powerhouse in the Western Conference, although that may change in the second half of the season. Since coming into the league a few years back and going to the Stanley Cup Final in their inaugural season, the Golden Knights have been a consistent playoff performer. Why not again this season?

New York Rangers Vs Calgary Flames

I’m sure this pick will be met with some eye rolls, but this is part of the fun of making predictions at this stage of the season. I tried to think of 2 teams, one from each conference, that might get on a run in the second half of the season, and these are the two that I came up with. The Rangers are pushing for top spot in the Metropolitan Division and have been streaky at times this season. That is a very similar story to the Calgary Flames, and while they are 4th in the Pacific Division, they are just 7 points out of the top with 5 games in hand. February is going to be a busy month for them as they make up postponed games, but that might allow them to get on a hot run.
