NHL Stanley Cup Odds in the Last Week of the Regular Season

NHL Stanley Cup Odds in the Last Week of the Regular Season

We are just a couple of days away from the end of the NHL regular season and the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs. There is just one playoff spot remaining to be filled, with that one being a Wild Card slot in the Eastern Conference, which will either go to the New York Islanders or Pittsburgh Penguins. There are also a couple of divisional races still going, but for the most part, we know how the matchups are going to look for Round 1, which makes handicapping the postseason a little easier. The feeling has been that the eventual winner will come from the Eastern Conference, but there are a couple of teams in the West who might yet upset the apple cart. With all of that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the potential favorites, as well as some dark horses to keep an eye on.

Updated 2023 Stanley Cup Odds, Picks, Favorites & Dark Horses

Stanley Cup Favorites

You cannot talk about potential Stanley Cup winners without talking about the Boston Bruins. They have been, far and, the best team in the league all season long, winning the President’s Trophy and looking like a team that are going to be nigh on impossible to beat in a 7-game series. They will have home ice advantage throughout the postseason, and when you consider that they are a ridiculous 34-4-3 in their own building, there is plenty of reason to think they might just roll their way to a Stanley Cup. The Bruins currently sit at +300.

That said, getting out of the East is not going to be easy, as there are a few teams who are more than capable of making things very difficult for Boston. The Carolina Hurricanes (+970) might well be the pick of the bunch, but you cannot look beyond the New Jersey Devils (+1025) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (+820), even though the Leafs have had trouble getting past the first round in the last few seasons.

Over in the West, the Colorado Avalanche (+600) remain the favorites to go to the Final, but I would not discount the Edmonton Oilers (+740), as they are catching the eye of the bookies with an 8-game win streak coming down the stretch.

Stanley Cup Dark Horses & Underdogs

Let’s start with potential dark horses in the Eastern Conference. The Tampa Bay Lightning (+1550) have fallen away coming down the stretch, losing 4 in a row, but you cannot ignore their playoff experience and the fact that they have won cups in recent seasons. Many are writing them off, but I think that is a dangerous thing to do. The New York Rangers (+1200) are another team that has the potential to make some noise in the postseason, and I would not be surprised to see a lot of long series in the East.

Despite how good the Oilers have been over the past few weeks the Vegas Golden Knights (+1150) have still been able to cling to the top spot in the Pacific Division. They are still in position to be the #1 seed in the West, which would give them an obvious advantage. The West truly is wide open, and the Dallas Stars (+1325), Minnesota Wild (+1850), and LA Kings (+1950) could all have a case made for them making a deep run.
