2021 NFL Draft Expert Analysis: QB Picks Edition

Written by on March 9, 2021

Much of the talk heading into the 2021 NFL Draft has been about how good the QB class is this year. There is no more valuable commodity in this league than a franchise QB, but as we have seen in the past, it is not easy to make the transition from college to the pros in that position. Players who have looked like legitimate starters have failed miserably, while QBs who go later in the draft end up making a career of it. The feeling this year is that Trevor Lawrence, who will be going with the first pick, is a can’t miss QB destined for a long NFL career, but the reality is that you just never really know. Given that we know he will be the first player taken, what about the other QBs in this draft? Let’s take a look at some of the QB Prop bets for the 2021 NFL Draft.

NFL Betting Predictions for the 2021 Draft QB Picks

Will a QB Go #2 In the Draft?

The New York Jets have the second pick in the draft, but there is some debate as to what they will do with that pick. It is true that Sam Darnold has not panned out as they had hoped, but there is a lot of blame to go around in that organization and not just all on the shoulders of the QB. The bookies, as well as a lot of the mock draft experts are of the belief that the Jets will go with a QB, with Zach Wilson in as the favorite at -200.

Will a QB Go #3 In the Draft?

This looks to be a more straightforward question to answer, if we assume that the Miami Dolphins do not trade away their #3 pick. Let’s not forget that the Dolphins used their first round pick last season to take QB Tua Tagovailoa, plus they benched Ryan Fitzpatrick midway through the season so that they could get a look at their young prospect. It would be a real surprise if they went with another QB, but Justin Fields is on the board at +200 in this spot.

Will the First 4 Picks all be QBs?

If we assume that the Miami Dolphins do not trade away their pick and stay in the #3 slot, then this looks like another straightforward question to answer. I see the Dolphins selecting a receiving weapon for Tua with their selection, which completely breaks up the possibility of all 4 opening picks being a QB.

Total QBs Drafted in Round One

We all know that Trevor Lawrence is going to be selected first overall, but how many QBs will we see go in the opening round. The O/U here is set at 4 ½, and when you consider that this is a solid draft class, the OVER looks good. Zach Wilson and Justin Fields are expected to go next, but you also have Trey Lance, Mac Jones, and Kyle Trask, all of whom could easily be selected in the opening round. A lot of what happens with the QBs in the draft will depend upon how the QB carousel goes in free agency, so you may want to pay attention to that before making a wager in this category.
