Top Quarterbacks in 2024 and How They Affect NFL Betting Lines

In the high-octane world of the NFL, quarterbacks reign supreme. Their leadership, talent, and clutch plays can make or break a season, significantly impacting a team’s performance and betting NFL lines.

So, who are the signal callers you should keep an eye on in 2024?

Today, we wanted to run down the Top NFL Quarterbacks to Watch in 2024:

Grading the NFL Quarterback Free Agency Moves | Analyzing Quarterbacks Betting Lines for the Season

2024 NFL Season | 105th season of the National Football League
Super Bowl LIX: Sunday, February 9, 2025

NFL Quarterbacks this Season

The National Football League will be here before you know it. The summer will quickly move along, and training camps will open up. Then, preseason action will start, then it will be time for the first kickoff of the season.

The National Football League is a quarterback league. The signal callers make a big difference in how games and seasons go for the teams.

With the 2024 season approaching, excitement fills the air! Identifying the top quarterbacks not only enhances your viewing experience but can also empower you to make informed betting NFL lines decisions.

Patrick Mahomes

Back to-back Super Bowl Champion did not put up flashy numbers a season ago.

In fact, Mahomes was sixth in passing yards among NFL quarterbacks.

But, as we have seen for years, Mahomes gets the job done when it counts the most. Mahomes is the favorite to win another MVP award.

He comes into the season at +475, which is nearly half the odds as the second favorite to win the award.

Mahomes threw for 27 touchdowns and had 14 interceptions last season.

Patrick Mahomes | No. 15 – Kansas City Chiefs

NFL Draft: 2017 / Round: 1 / Pick: 10
College: Texas Tech (2014–2016)

Josh Allen

Allen does not have his weapon in Stefon Diggs. Many feel that is a good thing, a Diggs showed a tendency to play with an attitude and even shorten his routes.

Allen threw for more than 4,300 yards a season ago, with 29 touchdowns.

Buffalo found themselves in a hole mid way through the season, but got out of it and made a postseason run.

Buffalo is still one of the teams talked about to win a Super Bowl

The Bills have to get over the AFC hump first.

Allen starts the season at +850 to win the MVP in 2024.

Josh Allen | No. 17 – Buffalo Bills

NFL Draft: 2018 / Round: 1 / Pick: 7
College: Reedley CC (2014) / Wyoming (2015–2017)

CJ Stroud

The former Ohio State signal caller has the league buzzing. In his second season, Stroud has three elite receiving options to work with.

The signal caller was 8th in passing yards a season ago, and missed two games due to injury.

He also threw 23 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions.

The AFC South is a good spot for Stroud and that Houston offense.

Can he and the Texans break out in 2024? Stroud is also +850 to win MVP.

CJ Stroud | No. 7 – Houston Texans

NFL Draft: 2023 / Round: 1 / Pick: 2
College: Ohio State (2020–2022)

Joe Burrow

It was a bit of a lost season in 2023 for Burrow. He finished 25th in passing yards, but missed 7 games.

Burrow appears to be healthy as of now, and has his top target in Ja’Marr Chase.

There are questions surrounding the Bengals, but in the end, this team still has the core of the team that went to the Super Bowl a couple seasons ago.

Burrow is looking for 30+ touchdowns and less than 10 interception type seasons in 2024.

He is +900 to win the MVP.

Joe Burrow | No. 9 – Cincinnati Bengals

NFL Draft: 2020 / Round: 1 / Pick: 1
College: Ohio State (2015–2017) / LSU (2018–2019)

Lamar Jackson

The MVP of a season ago. Jackson was just 15th in passing yards, but what he did on the ground was most impressive.

Also, he led Baltimore to the best record in the league, and to the AFC title game.

The Ravens are another team that will look to get over the Kansas City hump this season.

It remains to be seen if Jackson will continue to use his legs as effectively each season, but until that is slowed down, this is a dangerous quarterback.

Jackson is listed at +1400 to win the MVP.

Lamar Jackson | No. 8 – Baltimore Ravens

NFL Draft: 2018 / Round: 1 / Pick: 32
College: Louisville (2015–2017)

Jordan Love

Love is in his second season as the starter for the Green Bay Packers. He played all 17 games a season ago, and tossed for nearly 4,200 yards.

Love also had 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Packers were the youngest team in the postseason a season ago.

Will defenses catch up to Love or will he continue to make the jump as an elite quarterback?

Love comes into the season tied with Jackson at +1400 to win the MVP.

Jordan Love | No. 10 – Green Bay Packers

NFL Draft: 2020 / Round: 1 / Pick: 26
College: Utah State (2016–2019)

Jalen Hurts

Do not forget about Jalen Hurts. Many are, after a poor ending to the season in 2023.

Hurts did throw 15 interceptions, which was near the top of the league.

Hurts is another guy that uses his legs effectively.

The Eagles game plan involves Hurts moving up and down the field. Philadelphia is going to be a team with a chip on their shoulder.

We will see if Hurts can elevate his game in 2024.

Jalen Hurts | No. 1 – Philadelphia Eagles

NFL Draft: 2020 / Round: 2 / Pick: 53
College: Alabama (2016–2018) / Oklahoma (2019)

Others in Consideration:

  • Brock Purdy

  • Aaron Rodgers

  • Dak Prescott

  • Justin Herbert

  • Tua Tagovailoa

  • Anthony Richardson

  • Trevor Lawrence

Grading the NFL Quarterback Free Agency Moves

Previous Betting News

With this year’s NFL free agency period producing one of the biggest waves of quarterback movement we’ve ever seen, the 2020 NFL regular season will look a lot different in both conferences because of the head-turning uniform changes we’ve witnessed this spring.

Grading the NFL Quarterback Free Agency Moves

With that said, this fun-filled look at this offseason’s quarterback free agency period will provide both, some expert insight into what could lie ahead for several of these teams in 2020 while also providing a bit of entertainment in these trying, Covid-19 based times.

Starters Who Re-signed

Drew Brees. Dak Prescott and Ryan Tannehill will all be back with the Saints, Cowboys and Titans respectively after the Boys put the franchise tag on Prescott and Brees and Tannehill re-signed deals with New Orleans and Tennessee respectively.

Starters Who Signed With New Teams

Tom Brady

2019 team: New England Patriots
2020 team: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (reportedly $30 million per year)

The biggest free agent quarterback on the market has completely changed the outlook for several teams and NFL Odds by bolting from New England after two decades to sign with Tampa Bay.

The Patriots will almost certainly take a big step backwards in 2020, unless you believe that guys like Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer can fill Brady’s ample shoes. For me though, I’m wondering why the completely awful Hoyer still has a job in the league.

Philip Rivers

2019 team: Los Angeles Chargers
2020 team: Indianapolis Colts (one year, $25 million)

Rivers also bolts the only home he ever know by moving from the Chargers to the Colts on a one-year $25 million deal on this NFL free agency. Now, the Bolts appear to be turning the keys and Super Bowl Odds to their franchise over to veteran Tyrod Taylor while hoping to land a franchise quarterback with the sixth overall pick In the draft and that’s just not the worst thing ever.

Indianapolis gets a veteran signal-caller that should be a bit better than Jacoby Brissett, although it should be noted that I saw some considerable drop-off in the 28-year-old Rivers last season.

Teddy Bridgewater

2019 team: New Orleans Saints
2020 team: Carolina Panthers (three years, $63 million)

Bridgewater moves on from New Orleans after going 5-0 last season with Drew Brees out of the lineup. While the Saints are still in great shape with Drew Brees and Taysom Hill, I believe Carolina’s acquisition was one of, if not the, best free agent signing there’s been this spring. Bridgewater hooks up with creative first-year head coach Matt Rhule and I’m expecting the two to help get the Panthers back into playoff contention sooner rather than later.

Potential Starters

Marcus Mariota

2019 team: Tennessee Titans
2020 team: Las Vegas Raiders

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 draft never could get it together long enough to become Tennessee’s franchise quarterback and worse, the Titans took off last season after benching Mariota in favor of veteran Ryan Tannehill. Now though, the Raiders will give the still-talented former Oregon signal-caller another shot to be a starter, seeing as how Jon Gruden clearly isn’t in love with Derek Carr.

Nick Foles

2019 team: Jacksonville Jaguars
2020 team: Chicago Bears (acquired for a fourth-round pick)

It was one, helluva’ one-year ride with Jacksonville in 2019. After leaving Philadelphia to sign a big deal with the Jaguars, Foles was injured in Week 1 and was never the same when he did return to action as rookie Gardner Minshew II played well enough for the franchise to name him their starter moving forward. Now Foles goes to Chicago where I can easily see him replacing the ineffective Mitch Trubisky as the starter at some point in 2020, if it’s not right out of the gate.

Backups At Best

Case Keenum

2019 team: Washington
2020 team: Cleveland Browns (three years, $18 million)

Keenum is a smart veteran player that won’t cost you games with pitiful play, but he’s also not going to go out and lead his team to victory with precise passing. The future in Washington is either going to be second-year signal-caller Dwayne Haskins or possibly, the Skins go go after Tua in the NFL draft. The signing was a good one for a Browns team that saw Baker Mayfield take a significant step backwards last season. The move also reunites Keenum with former Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski where he had his best season ever in 2017.

Chase Daniel

2019 team: Chicago Bears
2020 team: Detroit Lions (three years, $13 million)

Daniels leaves Chicago, but the Bears are in great shape after adding Nick Foles to the um…fold. The Lions get an aging – and quite frankly – mediocre – veteran that will serve as the clipboard holder until starter Matthew Stafford suffers an injury. In other words, the Lions did nothing to really improve their backup or future quarterback outlook.

Jeff Driskel

2019 team: Detroit Lions
2020 team: Denver Broncos (two years, $5 million)

Driskel leaves Detroit where he will be replaced by the aforementioned Daniel and heads off to Denver where the broncos need as many serviceable quarterbacks as possible, although I’m thinking a 59-year-old John Elway could still outplay every quarterback on the Broncos’ roster.

Colt McCoy

2019 team: Washington
2020 team: New York Giants (terms TBD)

With Keenum bolting from Washington, the Skins now need a veteran backup for Dwayne Haskins. New York gets a capable backup for franchise cornerstone Daniel Jones though he’ll be in a battle with Alex Tanney for the backup job in the Big Apple.

Remaining Unsigned Free Agents

Blake Bortles, Joe Flacco, Mike Glennon, Brett Hundley, Josh McCown, Trevor Siemian, Jameis Winston

Likely available via trade (or if they’re released)

Andy Dalton, Cam Newton.
