Is Dallas or Philadelphia the pick to win the NFC East? Will Detroit hang on in the NFC North and is Atlanta the NFC South division winner?

NFC East | Philadelphia Eagles

It’s easy to back the Cowboys. But ESPN’s Stephen A makes great points regarding Dallas’ lack of success versus top competition. After at first brushing off Stephen A, he’s opened our eyes.

The Boys have a single quality victory and that was versus the Chargers, a team that doesn’t always play its best.

Philadelphia’s lone loss came against the Jets in a game Philly should have won. In the matchup following the loss to NYJ, Philadelphia blasted the Miami Dolphins 31-17. The Eagles are legit.

NFC North | Detroit Lions

Detroit’s lead over the Minnesota Vikings is just 2 games. However, the Lions will increase their lead because the Vikings must play rookie Jaren Hall or Joshua Dobbs, whom they acquired via a trade, after Kirk Cousins’s Achilles injury.

The Lions aren’t just winning behind an electric offense. The Lions are also playing great defense. Detroit is a real contender for the Super Bowl. And, yes, we’re still on Planet Earth.

NFC West | San Francisco 49ers

Although the Niners are on a 3-game losing streak versus the Browns, Vikings, and Bengals, San Francisco is just a game behind Seattle on the NFC West Standings.

The Niners made a massive trade deadline splash when acquiring former NFL Round 1 and second choice overall DE Chase Young from the Washington Commanders. Young on the opposite side of Bosa should allow Javon Hargrave to roam free up the middle making the Niners defense impossible to keep from reaching quarterbacks in the backfield.

NFC South | New Orleans Saints

It feels like the Saints have had a bad season, but here we are in NFL Week 9 and New Orleans is tied atop the South standings with the Atlanta Falcons at 4-4.

New Orleans could go on a winning streak. The victory over the Colts, where the Saints scored 38, is a sign QB Derek Carr has finally gelled with his mates.

AFC Wildcards

Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys remain one of the NFC’s top squads. Dallas will lose a few games the rest of the way, but they won’t lose enough to miss out on the playoffs.

Seattle Seahawks
If San Francisco’s issues continue, Seattle will win the NFC West. The Seahawks are legit Super Bowl contender with a terrific starting quarterback in Geno Smith, a strong rushing attack, and a much improved defense from 2022.

Atlanta Falcons
The Bucs are slightly better at quarterback with Baker Mayfield than the Falcons are with Desmond Ridder even though Atlanta beat Tampa in the first matchup.

But Tampa has a ridiculous schedule with games versus the Jaguars, a rematch against the Saints, versus the Titans, at Atlanta, at the 49ers, and at the Colts. Atlanta’s much easier schedule is why they’re the pick to grab the 7-seed.  

Predicted AFC Playoffs Seedings

1. Philadelphia Eagles
2. San Francisco 49ers
3. Detroit Lions
4. New Orleans Saints
5. Dallas Cowboys
6. Seattle Seahawks
7. Atlanta Falcons

Analysis: Philadelphia should run away with the first seed. The San Francisco 49ers will end the losing streak and go on a massive run to finish a game behind Philadelphia.

Detroit finishes ahead of the Saints. Dallas will have a better record than New Orleans or possibly even Detroit, but because the Cowboys play in the same division as the Eagles, Big D must settle for the top wildcard.

Seattle wins 2 or 3 more games than Atlanta and will play the Detroit Lions in the first round. Atlanta will travel to San Francisco in their first playoff game.
