Like a lot of teams in the NFL, the Carolina Panthers have been actively looking for an elite QB to lead them for a few seasons now. After giving up on Cam Newton, the Panthers have tried a few different guys, including last season when they made a trade to land Sam Darnold. That looked like a good move at the start of the season, with Darnold looking sharp in leading the Panthers to a 3-0 start in 2021. He tailed off rather quickly, though, and ended up missing games due to a shoulder injury, with the Panthers ultimately finishing the season with a 5-12 record. Carolina have now traded for Baker Mayfield, which should make the preseason battle for the #1 spot rather interesting. Looking ahead at the Panthers schedule for the coming season, there are a few games that jump out. Let’s take a closer look at those games so you can plan your bets against their NFL Lines.
Carolina Panthers Must Bet Games During the Regular Season | NFL Betting Picks
Week 1 vs Cleveland Browns
The general feeling is that Darnold will get another shot as the starter for the Panthers, but if Mayfield wins the QB battle, then we could well be in for a treat in the opening week of the season. Who wouldn’t like to see Mayfield line up against his former team, especially with how acrimoniously that whole thing ended? I’d wager that Mayfield sees some time on the field in this one.
Week 6 at LA Rams
What better way to measure yourself than by going against the defending Super Bowl champion? That is what the Panthers will be doing in Week 6 when they head out west to face the LA Rams. There is a belief that the Panthers will be better this season, but they have a long way to go to be truly competitive. This will give us an idea of just how far this team still needs to go.
Week 7 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Talk about a tough stretch of games, the Panthers will follow up a tilt against the Super Bowl champions by going head-to-head with the GOAT, with Tom Brady and the Bucs coming to town. These are a couple of games that could potentially make or break a season, as picking up a win in either of these outings would give the Panthers a serious jolt of confidence as they look ahead to the second half.
Week 9 at Cincinnati Bengals
It’s not very often that a team gets to play the two teams that went to the Super Bowl in the previous season, but here we are. We very often see the losing team from the previous Super Bowl have a poor season, but you get the sense that the Bengals are just at the beginning of what could be a very successful period. This is yet another game that will give the Panthers an idea of how far they still need to go to be great.
Week 11 at Baltimore Ravens
While the Panthers have been focusing on improving their offense, you do have to wonder how they will look on the defensive side of the football. We will have a very good idea of that by this stage of the season, but it’s always fun to see how opposing defenses handle the unique talents of Lamar Jackson. This should be a fun one to watch.
Besides these, I would also be looking at the divisional games as ones to watch and wager on, as those will go a long way towards how the division and the NFC as a whole will play out.
