NFL Win-Loss Projections: Who Will Rule the 2024 Season?

NFL Win-Loss Projections: Who Will Rule the 2024 Season?

It can very easily be argued that wins and losses mean much more in the NFL than in any other professional sport.

We are still a few weeks away from the official 2024 schedule being released by the NFL, but there are still some factors that we can look at when trying to decide which teams might get out to a 5-0 start for NFL Betting Prediction: Chiefs, Ravens, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills and 49ers.

My Analysis

Each team only has 17 games to do enough to get to the playoffs, so getting out to a strong start is a must. Even starting the season at 0-2 can put a team in a hole that is very tough to dig out of, while a fast start immediately makes the chances of making the playoffs that much better. Of course, a fast or slow start does not always serve as an indicator of how the season might go as a whole for any given team, as there are a ton of factors that can come into play to derail a season or make a lost cause suddenly seem like a winning proposition.

1.We can look at teams that went on extended win streaks last season. There were several that won 5 in a row, and even a couple that won 6 straight games, which was the longest win streak of last season.

2.We can also look at the expected win totals for the coming season to get an idea of who might come out hot. Teams that are expected to win 5 or fewer games are unlikely to put together any type of long win streak. With all of that in mind, and without knowing what the schedule looks like, let’s talk about a few teams that might get out to a 5-0 start this season.

Kansas City Chiefs Regular Season Wins

Over 11.5
-111
Under 11.5
-111

The 2-time defending Super Bowl champions look set to make another run at the championship again this season. Besides winning the Super Bowl, the Chiefs also tied for the longest win streak in the season, although that did not come right at the start of the year. They lost in Week won before bouncing back to win 6 in a row. That helped them get to 11-6 at the end of the regular season, which was more than good enough to win the division. The Chiefs are loaded from top to bottom again this season, so it would not be a shocker to see them jump out to a fast start.

Baltimore Ravens Regular Season Wins

Under 11.5
-135
Over 11.5
+110

The Ravens were the other team to put together a 6-game winning streak last season, and when you consider that their win total for this year is set at 11 ½, they might be a good bet to start the season hot. The thing to consider with the Ravens is how many divisional games they have in the opening 5 weeks of the new season. Matchups between teams in the AFC North tend to be tight, so if they have a couple of early divisional games coming, it might be tough for them to get out to a 5-0 start. Still, they are certainly in the conversation to make it happen.

Philadelphia Eagles Regular Season Wins

Under 10.5
-124
Over 10.5
+102

The Philadelphia Eagles were one of only 2 teams to start the 2023 season with 5 straight wins. They eventually lost their 6th game, but they then went on another run of 5 straight wins, so they are a team that has to be looked at serious as potentially being able to string together a solid run of wins at the start of the season. This is also a team that is sure to have a little bit of a chip on their shoulder after crashing out of the playoffs in the Wild Card round, which was not what we expected to see happen. There is another factor that comes into play with their ability to get off to a 5-0 start, which we will talk about next.

Dallas Cowboys Regular Season Wins

Under 10.5
-121
Over 10.5
-101

Here is where things get a little tricky when talking about a potential 5-0 start. The Eagles and the Cowboys both have a shot at getting out to that type of start, but since they are in the same division, there is the possibility of them meeting before we get to the 6th game of the season. In that case, one of them will be taken out of the running for a 5-0 start. This is where seeing the schedule before making these types of wagers comes into play, as they might still both achieve the 5-0 landmark if they don’t actually go head-to-head until after Week 5. The Cowboys did win 5 in a row in 2023, but that run came late, starting in mid-November.

Buffalo Bills Regular Season Wins

Under 10.5
-121
Over 10.5
-101

The Bills were another team that had a 5-game winning streak in 2023, but theirs came very late in the season, with the first win of the 5 coming in December. That run helped them win the division, but it ended with them going out in the Divisional Round in the playoffs. This is still a very good team, but I’m not as sure that their window of opportunity is as wide open as it was a couple of years ago. While I certainly think that Buffalo has the potential to start the season with a 5-0 record or better, I would also be waiting to see their schedule.

San Francisco 49ers Regular Season Wins

Under TBA
Over TBA

If you were to put me on the spot right now and force me to pick one team to get out to a 5-0 start, I would probably take the San Francisco 49ers, which means I have probably now doomed them to a miserable start to the upcoming season. Their win total for the season is set at 11 ½, which seems more than manageable when you consider that they don’t really appear to have a serious contender, outside of maybe the Rams, in the West Division. The 49ers won 5 in a row to start the season last year, and then went on another 5-game winning streak in November, eventually making it to the Super Bowl, where they ultimately lost to the Chiefs. I think they will be strong again this season.
