NBA Playoffs Odds: Favorites Team’s Betting Analysis on each Conference

Monday night in the NBA was like the calm before the storm. There were no games on the schedule, almost as though every team was taking a breath before the final push for the NBA playoffs. Yes, we are now in the final week of the season and there are still a lot of things to be decided before we get to see the final standings and what the opening round matchups look like, after the play-in games, of course. It is going to be a crazy final few days, with some absolutely massive games coming our way over the next few days. Let’s now take a moment to look at the current playoff picture.

Eastern Conference

With just 4 games left to play, the Bucks have a 2-game lead at the top of the East, so unless they have a complete meltdown, they will head into the playoffs as the #1 seed. The Boston Celtics still has an outside shot at catching the Bucks, but the reality is that they look to be locked into the #2 seed.

Moving down the standings, we have the Philadelphia 76ers in at #3, and with the Cavaliers sitting 2 ½ games back, they look safe in that spot. The same is true of the Cavs, who will almost certainly be in as the #4 seed.

In fact, the Eastern Conference looks pretty much set, other than the play-in, with The Knicks and Nets looking as though they will be #5 and #6, respectively.

The 4 play-in teams are all essentially set, with the Toronto Raptors the only team out of the 4 to have officially clinched a spot in there. The Heat, Hawks, and Bulls will also be part of the play-in, but it’s tight in there, so we are going to need to wait and see who plays who.

Western Conference

While some of the Western Conference looks to be set in stone, the entire playoff outlook is still a little fuzzy. The Denver Nuggets have a 3-game lead at the top and will almost certainly be the #1 seed in the West. The Memphis Grizzlies, who occupy the #2 spot, are 2 games up on the Sacramento Kings in #3. I imagine that the top 3 will look the same come the start of the NBA playoffs, but below that group, it is incredibly tight.

The Phoenix Suns have some breathing room as the #4 seed, but the rest of the seeding looks almost too tough to call. The Clippers and Warriors are in the #5 and #6 spots, respectively, but they are also only a half game up on the top teams in the play-in zone.

The Lakers and Pelicans are both within striking distance and have a shot at the top 6. Minnesota and OKC are the final 2 teams in the play-in at the moment, but they are far from safe. The Mavericks and Jazz are both still close, but both need to start winning soon or they will face elimination. The Western Conference is going to be a ton of fun to watch in the final week, as we might well see some changes in the seeding before all is said and done.
