After unsuccessful attempts to try and save their quarterback position with Sam Darnold in 2021 and Baker Mayfield in 2022, Carolina made a bold move to trade up for the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft.
With that pick, they selected former Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, and the Panthers feel like they now have their man.
Nothing is a sure thing in the NFL, but the excitement in Carolina is real.

There are a lot of teams ahead of the Panthers on the Super Bowl odds board, and only a few behind them. Those are Tampa Bay, Tennessee, Indianapolis, Houston, and Arizona.
So no, as exciting as Young is, this is not the year to mortgage the house on a Panthers Super Bowl win.
NFC Champions (+3000)
We would offer up the same advice on a Panthers NFC title game win. Leave the big money in your wallet, and only make this bet as a means of fun. The Panthers are building for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, and it would be very unlikely to see them topple the likes of the Eagles and 49ers this year.
NFC South Champions (+330)
For the NFC South, the Panthers’ future could be now. While Super Bowl trips are off in the distance, not so with a possible return to the top of the division.
Carolina last won the NFC South in 2015 when Cam Newton was the league’s MVP. Young isn’t in the running to repeat Newton’s feat in 2023, but in what is a very winnable division, the Panthers are definitely in the mix. They finished in second place a year ago, and this team feels like a better and more optimistic version of that team.
Panthers Win Total
It’s going to take more than eight wins to win the NFC South. Probably. Eight wins was enough to win it in 2022. So that means that if Carolina does win the division, they should easily hit the over on their season win total. Over 7.5 wins is paying -135.
It would be the first eight-plus win season for Carolina since they won 11 games in 2017 and lost in the Wild Card to New Orleans. According to strength of schedule when using projected win totals for 2023, Carolina has the third easiest schedule in the NFL.
Weekly Panthers Betting
In 2022 it was good to bet on the Panthers against the spread. They finished the season 9-8 ATS. It was even better to bet on the Panthers when they were the underdog, which happened a lot. They were 0-3 ATS and straight up as the favorite, but an impressive 9-5 ATS as underdogs.
As home dogs, they were as near a sure thing as there was, winning against the spread in five of six games.
If that holds true in 2023, it should be good times for Carolina bettors this season. At home, the Panthers are underdogs in four of their eight games. They are listed as early underdogs in all nine of their scheduled games on the road.
