NFL Rumors & News: Best Player Trade So Far

Written by on April 12, 2021

It has been a very busy offseason in the NFL in terms of trades and free agent signings. With the draft now just a matter of days away, we have probably not seen the last of the wheeling and dealing. You can almost guarantee that moves are going to be made in the coming days as teams try to improve their draft positioning to have a better shot at landing the players they want. Before all that happens, though, we thought it might be a good idea to look back at the biggest trades made this offseason so you can continue planning your bets against their NFL odds for the new upcoming season.

We all knew that there was going to be some major moves made at the QB position this offseason and that has proven to be correct. One of the bigger moves made saw Matthew Stafford head to the LA Rams in a straight swap with Jared Goff. Last season was a down year for Goff, so a change of scenery might give him a boost. Stafford has stuck with a Lions team that has done little to build around him, so it’s great to see him land with a team that might well be a contender this coming season.

Another QB move that was not particularly surprising was seeing Carson Wentz moved out of Philadelphia. The Eagles QB has had injury issues throughout his career, including one that forced him to watch his team win the Super Bowl from the sidelines. Last season, though, he looked to be having a crisis of confidence, so a fresh start might be just what the doctor ordered. Wentz will go under center for the Indianapolis Colts, a very good team, this coming season. Again, this is another move that could help turn the Colts into a contender if Wentz can recapture the form from earlier in his career.

One team that has been particularly active this offseason is the Arizona Cardinals. They are building a strong squad and look to be all in on making a run at the Super Bowl. Picking up J.J. Watt and A.J. Green were proof of their commitment to winning now, but it may be the trade for Rodney Hudson that could prove to be their smartest move. The Cardinals have an exciting young QB in Kyler Murray, but he needs to be protected at all costs. Hudson has proven more than capable of handling that job. If he can continue his from with the Raiders from the past few seasons, look out.

This year’s crop of QBs coming into the draft is strong, which may not be the case next year, so it is perhaps no real surprise that teams are trying to position themselves in the draft to land one of those QBs. The Jets will pick second, but there was a question as to what they might do with their high draft pick. After trading away Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers, there is no doubt that they will now be targeting a QB. This move came just a matter of days after the Jets management spoke out about all the things they loved about Darnold.
