Mid-week Rumors for MLB Week 13

Mid-week Rumors for MLB Week 13

As we reach the midway point of the regular season and the All-Star Break, things tend to get a little crazy in the MLB. The trade deadline is about a month away, so even when teams take that short break, the guys in the front office will be looking to make deals that might improve their team for the second half playoff push. It’s no surprise then that a lot of the rumors going around right now are about who might be on the move, although this season is a little more difficult than others to predict who will be buying and selling.

Still, the rumors are there, and we have to discuss them, as well as some of the other news swirling around the league. Here’s some other MLB betting news and happenings for Week 13 of the MLB season.

MLB Week 13: Monday June 26 – Sunday July 2, 2023

Scherzer Ready to Waive No Trade Clause

One team that might well be ready to sell off some high-priced assets is the New York Mets. This season has not gone according to plan, as they find themselves 8 ½ games out of the final Wild Card spot in the NL. Sources from within the Mets organization have suggested that Max Scherzer would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if the right opportunity came along. Scherzer would love another crack at winning a World Series, and at 38, time is running out, so it makes sense that he would be willing to move on to a playoff team.

Francona In Hospital for Tests

Prior to their Tuesday night game against the Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona admitted himself to hospital after complaining of feeling unwell. The bench boss actually took time to speak to reporters prior to the game, but left for hospital shortly thereafter, where he was kept overnight. For now, the Guardians front office has remained tight-lipped other than to say that no updates will be coming till sometime later on Wednesday, so watch for more as this story develops.

Boyd to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

It is the end of the road this season for LHP Tommy Boyd of the Detroit Tigers, who underwent an examination of his elbow after experiencing discomfort on Monday night against the Texas Rangers. The upshot of the examination was that Boys will require Tommy John surgery, which will rule him out for the remainder of the season, as well as potentially meaning that he will also miss all of next season. At 32 years of age, there is still time for Boyd to return to the league and perform at a high level, assuming all goes well with the surgery.

No Panic in New York

While this may not jibe with the first story in this article, word is that the front office of the New York Mets are not about to hit the panic button, even though it seems as though this teams is not going to be anywhere near a playoff spot this season. Considering the money that has been spent to build this team, the belief is that Buck Showalter might end up being the fall guy for the disappointing season to this point. Right now, though, the Mets FO seems to be backing their bench boss, but how long will they do that if things continue to go downhill?
