Strange as it may seem, Week 2 of the season is viewed by many as an important one. There are all kinds of historical statistics about teams failing to make the playoffs after getting out to an 0-2 start, so for the teams who lost in Week 1, this weekend is big. That said, the current setup in the NFL is a little more forgiving than it has been in the past. After all, teams now have an extra game to try and make up the deficit, plus there is one more playoff spot available in each conference now. Still, it is never good to get into an early hole, especially when other teams in the division or conference get out to a fast start. There are some very good teams looking down the barrel of an 0-2 start this coming weekend and we will have some of them included in our SU picks for Week 2. Let’s get right to it so you can get ready to make your bets against the NFL odds.

Denver Broncos over Jacksonville Jaguars
When looking to get off to a fast start, it certainly helps to have a favorable schedule to work with. The Denver Broncos are one of the teams that benefitted from just such a schedule and will look to move to 2-0 this weekend when they take the trip to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars. Denver got off to a winning start by taking out the New York Giants 27-13 in Week 1, while the Jaguars looked very much like a team in rebuilding mode in a 37-21 loss to a Houston Texans team that most people expect to be rather poor this season. Denver has won just 3 of their last 9 meetings with the Jacksonville Jaguars and have not been a great pick in the month of September. Despite all of that, I still like them to get the win.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Las Vegas Raiders
Heading into this week, most people were expecting both of these teams to be looking for their first win of the season. The Steelers opened up on the road against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 and came away with the 23-16 win. The Raiders started their season on Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens and delivered an exciting OT win in that one. The Raiders have actually been very good on the road, winning 5 of their last 6 games away from home, but the short week and the travel across country is a bit of a concern. You also need to look at the fact that Pittsburgh is 11-3 SU in their last 14 home games. All of that adds up to a Steelers win.
San Francisco 49ers over Philadelphia Eagles
What we have here are a pair of teams looking to bounce back from disappointing seasons in 2020. For the 49ers, it was injuries that did them in last year, while the Eagles were in a bit of a transition phase, changing their head coach and starting QB all at the same time. Both teams got off to a great start in Week 1, which makes this matchup very interesting indeed. The 49ers won a lot more comfortably over Detroit than the 41-33 score suggests, giving up a bunch of points late. The Eagles were in control from start to finish in a rout of the Falcons. This is a much tougher test for the Eagles, and while they have been good against the 49ers historically, I think they lose this one.
