The NFC West Division is one of the most intriguing this season. One of the reasons is because of the quarterbacks.

2022 NFL Draft’s Mr. Irrelevant rises to the top of the NFC West quarterbacks list because of last season’s performance. Purdy immediately grasped Kyle Shanahan’s intricate playbook, which means Brock’s football IQ is off the charts.

He was great up until an elbow injury versus the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. So far during camp, Purdy has thrown with velocity. So if he can get on the same page with skill players like Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey, 49ers repeat trip to the NFC title game should be in order.

Geno Smith was supposed to be a stop gap quarterback measure for the Seattle Seahawks. The Hawks had traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a boat load of draft picks. Seattle signed Geno to compete with Drew Lock for the start.

Instead, it was no competition. Pete Carroll knew he had a legit starter in Smith and Geno delivered, throwing for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions.

Smith could take a backward step in 2023 and he’d still rank ahead of Murray, or whoever starts in Arizona, and Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles. Keep reading to discover why.

Even if Kyler gets the start, it’s difficult seeing him play at one-hundred percent. So he’ll rank behind Smith and Purdy. If McCoy or Tune starts, both will rank ahead of Stafford.

Before getting to Staff, let’s make the case for McCoy and Tune. Colt has a lot of NFL experience. So he will run Arizona’s offense while making few mistakes. Tune has a cannon for an arm. Clayton also has youth on his side.

So even if Murray can’t go, Arizona’s starting quarterback, no matter who it is, will rank ahead of the Rams’ starting QB.

Stafford should be healed from the injury that plagued him last season. But even if Stafford is one-hundred percent healed, his days of being a top flight quarterback are over.

The truth is that Stafford wasn’t in the top flight the season the Rams won the Super Bowl. In 2021, Staff threw 17 interceptions during the regular season. He threw 9 in 4 games in the playoffs, including throwing 2 versus the Bengals.

The Rams got lucky because the Cincinnati offensive line couldn’t stop Aaron Donald and the Rams’ pass rush. If not for the Rams D, Stafford and LAR wouldn’t have won the 2022 Super Bowl.

This season, the Rams boast one of the worst, if not the worst, offensive lines in the NFL. So Staff will be in trouble in most every Los Angeles game. Stafford has the chance of throwing 20 or more interceptions in 2023 because Matt isn’t mobile enough to evade the rush. Things aren’t looking good for Matthew Stafford in what projects to be his final season in the NFL.
