Chiefs, Saints, Buccaneers and Steelers lead list of top contenders

The Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints in the NFC have emerged as the teams to back to win the Super Bowl on February 7. The defending champion Chiefs have a single loss on their record while Pittsburgh is undefeated, and the Saints have two losses.

KC does everything well. Also, as long as Patrick Mahomes is under center, Kansas City will have a shot to run the table in the playoffs. The one concern could be the rush defense, which allows 138.4  yards per. Although the Chiefs are a contender, the porous rush defense makes them a bad play at +325. Better plays are the Saints, Bucs, and Steelers.

New Orleans must get through the next month with Jameis Winston at quarterback. If they can do that, the Saints will be tough to beat in the playoffs. The defense got a huge boost when New Orleans acquired Kwon Alexander from the San Francisco 49ers. In his first action in a Saint’s uniform, Alexander got 4 tackles, 2 solo and 2 assists.

The Saints are a decent play. Based on odds, the Steelers are the best play. Pittsburgh is undefeated. They can beat you with their defense or offense. The defense ranks third in points allowed while the Big Ben led offense averages 30.4 points per.

Pittsburgh could go undefeated. Their three toughest games in their final seven are versus Baltimore, at Buffalo, and versus Indianapolis.

Tampa Bay has a chance. The defense plays well, and Tom Brady has thrown great. Consider Tampa a contender to win the Super Bowl.

Ravens, Packers, and Seahawks are your top pretenders

Since starting the season undefeated and becoming a Super Bowl favorite, the Seattle Seahawks have lost 3-of-4. Seattle takes on the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, November 19.

Even if Seattle wins, the defense ranks dead last in the NFL in yards allowed per game. Teams average 353.3 passing yards per against the Seahawks. That’s a bad sign for a team that will likely face the Saints, Buccaneers, or Packers in the playoffs.

Speaking of the Packers, Green Bay also has some issues. The Packers were undefeated until Tampa Bay dominated them 38-10 on Oct. 18. Since then, Minnesota has beaten Green Bay and the Packs struggled to beat the Jaguars. Signs point to a Green Bay meltdown in the final seven games.

In Week 10, the Baltimore Ravens dropped a matchup against the New England Patriots. Baltimore failed in the playoffs last season. This season the defense isn’t as good while opponents have figured out how to contain quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Best underdog plays include the Raiders, Dolphins, and Rams

The Raiders, Dolphins, and Rams are all contenders offering overlay odds. Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr has thrown just two interceptions this season while the Raiders’ defense has stepped it up in recent weeks.

Tua Tagovailoa won’t throw interceptions. He makes excellent decisions and Miami’s defense is solid. The Rams may have the best defense in the NFL. Like Tua, Jared Goff plays within himself. He doesn’t do too much on offense. Los Angeles plays an old-school style of football.

Some consider Arizona a contender. They could be if the defense gets it together. The Cardinals got lucky to beat the Buffalo Bills in Week 10, though. So, don’t take a mortgage out on the house to back AZ to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
