Tom Brady Is MVP Favorite

I didn’t think there was any chance that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady would win a third career NFL MVP Award this season because he wasn’t going to play more than 12 regular-season games due to his Deflategate suspension to start the year. But there’s no question that Brady is the favorite on NFL odds.Brady passed for 315 yards and four touchdowns in the Patriots’ 41-25 win at Buffalo on Sunday. He became the third player in NFL history to throw for 12 or more touchdowns and no interceptions in his first four games of the season. Brady has the highest passer rating in the NFL on deep balls (20-plus yards down the field) according to Pro Football Focus, connecting on nine of 15 attempts for 383 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also the highest-rated passer at PFF for quarterbacks under pressure, going 17-of- 36 for 300 yards and two touchdowns in 46 dropbacks where he was pressured.Brady now has 26 career wins against the Bills, tying Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre (26 vs. Detroit) for the most victories against a single opponent in NFL history. The victory also marked Brady’s 48th career win in October, the most in the month in NFL history. Brady has 25 career games with at least four touchdown passes, the third-most in NFL history behind Peyton Manning (35) and Drew Brees (29). Oh, and the Patriots are Super Bowl favorites.

It’s The Year Of The Tie

Might the NFL decide to eliminate ties this offseason? The league can’t be happy that we had a tie in Week 8 for the second straight Sunday. The Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals played to a 27-27 tie in the first-ever overtime game played in London. The other tie was Seattle and Arizona 6-6 in Week 7. It is the first time there have been ties in back-to- back weeks since 1997 (Weeks 12-13). In Week 12, 1997, Baltimore and Philadelphia tied 10-10. The following week (Week 13), the New York Giants and Washington tied 7-7.Since overtime was instituted in 1974, there have only been three seasons where there have been two ties in a season (1986, 1997, 2016), meaning the two ties this year tied the all-time record for ties in a season. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis also tied a record. Lewis just coached the third tie game of his career, tying Bart Starr, who also coached in three tie games (1978, 1980, 1982).

A Cowboy Will Win Rookie Of Year

Either No. 4 overall pick Ezekiel Elliott or No. 135 pick Dak Prescott will win Offensive Rookie of the Year this season for the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott led a comeback win over Philadelphia on Sunday night. In crunch time, Prescott directed an 11-play, 90-yard drive and capped it with a game-tying 22-yard TD pass to Dez Bryant, back after missing three games due to a knee injury. He’s the second rookie quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to a 6-1 start. And you’d have to go way back to 1948 to find the first one, Johnny Lujack of the Chicago Bears. Elliott gained 96 yards on 22 carries and caught each of his four targets for another 52 yards in Sunday’s win.One thing that could derail the NFL’s leading rusher from winning ROY is he could face a lengthy suspension if the NFL’s current investigation finds he has violated the league’s domestic abuse policy, according to reports. Authorities in Columbus, Ohio, declined to press charges against Elliott following an incident there this summer, in which a complaint was filed against Elliott claiming five instances of domestic abuse, and the NFL’s probe into the situation continues.
