Dubs star Stephen Curry scored 21, but struggled from the field. Curry missed his first five shots from behind the arc and finished 2 of 14 from deep. Nuggets Coach Michael Malone served as an assistant coach for the Warriors for two seasons (2011-12 – 2012-13).

Why Bet on Golden State?

The Warriors are 6-2 following a 120-109 win in Detroit on Monday. Stephen Curry had 34 points and for the fourth time this season, he knocked down seven 3-pointers in a game. No other player has more than one game with seven-or-more 3-pointers this season.

The Warriors were able to play all of their key veterans on Monday, one night after they lost in Cleveland, which is a good sign as far as health is concerned. Draymond Green (six points, nine rebounds, and eight assists) was the lone question mark heading into Monday, but he ultimately started and played 28 minutes. Green had made 13 consecutive free throw attempts, two shy of the longest streak in his career (2/24-3/20/21). A 71.3 percent career free throw shooter, Green is making a single-season career-high 87.5 percent this season.

Klay Thompson shot 8-of-16 from the field to finish with 17 points. One of the greatest 3-point shooters in NBA history, Thompson did the majority of his damage from inside the arc on Monday. He shot 7-of-8 from two and 1-of-8 from three, with the latter being his worst effort of the season to date. Chris Paul added 17 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two 3-pointers in 21 minutes off the bench.

Paul has 29 assists and no turnovers in the last four games, becoming the first Warriors player to come off the bench in all four games to have that many assists without a turnover since 1977-78, when individual turnovers were first tracked. Only Lorenzo Romar in 1982-83 had more assists (30) for the Warriors franchise in a four-game span. The last NBA player with 29-or-more assists and no turnovers in a four-game span was Minnesota’s Jordan McLaughlin (30 AST/0 TO) in 2021-22, who also came off the bench in all four contests.

Golden State reserves have outscored the opponent’s bench in each game and overall, 331-224 (41.4 to 28.0 ppg). Paul leads all reserves in assists per game (6.8 apg) and is ranked third in plus-minus (minimum five games played as a reserve) with a +8.5. In six games as a reserve, Paul has 41 assists and just two turnovers. Paul leads all reserves in assist/turnover ratio with 20.5 (second is Delon Wright, 8.67).

Curry is averaging 30.9 points on 55.1% shooting from the field, 46.5% from 3 and 94.4% from the free throw line. He is the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points through his first eight games of a season at age 35 or older. This is also the third time Curry has averaged 30 points on 50-45-90 shooting splits through his first eight games in a season — a feat no other NBA player has done. The former MVP also led the Warriors outright in scoring in all eight games, the longest streak to begin a season by a player at age 35 or older. Curry’s eight consecutive games with four-or-more 3-pointers to start a season is an NBA record.

The last time Golden State started a season 6-2 was in 2016-17. It’s the fourth time in franchise history the Warriors began a season with four consecutive road wins (2015-16, 1972-73, 1960-61). Last season the Warriors didn’t earn their fourth road win until their 20th road game on January 13, 2023.

Why Bet on Denver?

Denver is 7-1 and won its third straight game Monday, 134-116 over New Orleans. Nikola Jokic shot 15-of-24 from the field to finish with 35 points with 14 rebounds and 12 assists. The Nuggets got off to a slow start Monday night, trailing by as much as 20, but they flipped a switch after halftime. Jokic led the way, recording his second triple-double of the season while establishing a new season-high point total. With Jamal Murray (hamstring) expected to miss an extended period of time, the Joker will have to do a little bit more than he already does. He leads the NBA in total points and rebounds. Jokic now has 108 triple-doubles to take solo fourth place all-time. He now trails only Magic Johnson (138), Oscar Robertson (181), and Russell Westbrook (198).

Michael Porter Jr. added 22 points, nine rebounds and three assists. MPJ has scored 20+ points four times this season, which means good things for the Nuggets as they are 48-14 all-time when Porter Jr. scores 20+ points in a game.

Julian Strawther shot 8-of-13 from the field to finish with 21 points. With Jamal Murray (hamstring) due to miss an extended period of time, the Nuggets will need even greater contributions from players lower in the pecking order. After Collin Gillespie (six points, one rebound, one assist, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 17 minutes vs. NOR) gave the Nuggets good minutes in the second half of Saturday’s win over the Bulls, it was Strawther’s turn on Monday. The first-round pick out of Gonzaga sparked the rally from a 20-point deficit with three second-quarter 3-pointers, and he shot 5-of-9 from the field in the fourth to help put the Pelicans away.

Reggie Jackson played 24 minutes Monday and had seven points. As expected, Jackson was promoted into the starting lineup in the aftermath of Murray’s injury. He was hurt early in Saturday’s win over the Chicago Bulls and has been dealing with hamstring tightness since training camp so Murray is not expected back Wednesday. He is averaging 16.3 points and 7.4 assists this season.

Denver has won 28 of the last 30 games when outrebounding the opponent by 10 or more. The 7-1 record is the team’s best start to a season since the 2018-2019 season, when the team started with a record of 9-1.
