Lions’ Offensive Changes During the Offseason

Adding Gibbs could be one of the most important factors for the Detroit Lions’ success this season. For sure, draft analysts like Mel Kiper didn’t like the move, but Gibbs had a stunning final season at Alabama and the Lions lost RB1 Jamaal Williams to the Saints in free agency.

Not only that, but Gibbs caught 44 passes from Bryce Young while with the Tide in a single season. While quarterbacking the Los Angeles Rams, Jared Goff threw 10 passes in a single game to Rams’ running back Todd Gurley.

It’s important for Gibbs to catch passes from Goff more than ever this season because the Lions’ top draft pick from a year ago, WR Jameson Williams, must wait out a suspension due to gambling.

Detroit Lions Offensive Line Analysis

Left tackle Taylor Decker is one of the best in the NFL. Penei Sewell, the Lions top draft pick from a year ago, plays right tackle.

The guards, LG Jonah Jackson and RG Halapoulivaati Vaitai, are also exceptional. Frank Ragnow is a top center. Compared to every other team in the league, maybe four teams boast a better offensive line then what Detroit sends to the field.

Detroit Lions Wide Receivers Room Analysis

Without Williams, the Lions’ WR room is okay but not great. Amon-Ra St. Brown has star potential. But Marvin Jones Jr. is a utility wide receiver at best.

Tight-end Brock Wright caught 18 passes last season. He could turn into one of the better tight-ends in the league. If that happens, the unit could get into the top ten.

Detroit Lions Running Backs Room Analysis

If the plan is to make Jahmyr Gibbs a reciever and running back, the Detroit Lions could have something special. Back up David Montgomery is solid.

So if Gibbs becomes a slash RB/WR type player, which is possible, think Alvin Kamara with the Saints and Thurman Thomas with Bills back in the early 1990s, Detroit’s running back room could end up one of the NFL’s best.

Detroit Points Scored & Yards Per Game Range Prediction

Detroit’s offense should be more explosive this season than it was last season. Gibbs has the type of skills that could turn the Lions into a close to 30 points per game team.

But there’s a caveat. Detroit would probably like to control the clock by running Montgomery and Gibbs to protect their defense, which will be better than last season, but still not great.

So although Detroit will score more, it will by no more than 2 points. The Lions average about 5 more yards this season than last season.

QB Jared Goff to Win MVP: +3100 – NFL MVP

Analysis: Gibbs will catch a ton of passes and when Williams gets back, the receiver room will jump into the top ten. Based on those two things, Jared Goff offers overlay odds to Win MVP.

There is a situation, if the defense improves big time, where Goff could pull a Drew Brees and the Lions could make it to at least the NFC Conference Championship. So if you agree, pull the trigger.

RB Jahmyr Gibbs to Win NFL Rookie Offensive Player of the Year: +700

Gibbs’ NFL rookie of the year odds have fallen from +1100 to +700. Handicappers are realizing the Lions drafted Gibbs to be the next Alvin Kamara.

So there’s a chance Gibbs catches close to 100, if not more than 100, passes this season while rushing for over 800 yards. That would make Jahmyr the NFL Rookie Offensive Player of the Year. So like with Gibbs’ quarterback, if you believe, go for it.
