Series History

The Giants lead all-time 7-3. The teams last met in 2021 and the Dolphins‘ 20-9 victory ended the Giants’ four-game winning streak in the series. It was also the Giants’ first loss in four visits to Miami, where they won in 1993, 1996 and 2015. The Giants also defeated the Dolphins as visitors in London in 2007.

Why Bet on New York?

Well, the Giants can’t play worse than they did Monday in a 24-3 home loss to Seattle – New York remains the only team in the league without a first-half touchdown. The Giants allowed a franchise record 11 sacks; turned the ball over three times, including an interception that was returned 97 yards for a touchdown; committed six special teams penalties; and played their fourth straight game without recording a takeaway. The team that started last year 6-1 fell to 1-3, including two losses at home.

Daniel Jones was nothing short of terrible vs. the Seahawks as he completed 27 of 34 passes for 203 yards and rushed 10 times for 66 yards in Monday’s 24-3 loss to the Seahawks. He was intercepted twice and fumbled twice, losing one.

Jones completed 14 of 17 first-half passes, but he mustered a modest 121 passing yards and lost a fumble. Things didn’t get any better after halftime, as Jones was picked off twice, including a pick-six from Seattle’s three-yard line. In fairness to Jones, the offensive line also didn’t give him much time, as he was sacked 10 times. Jones fell to 1-12 in prime-time games in his career, including 0-7 on MNF.

New York has now been outscored 64-3 in its two home games this season. Only the 1975 Chargers scored fewer points in the Super Bowl era (0) in their first two home games. Coach Brian Daboll ripped into Jones on the sideline Monday but isn’t ready to make a QB change.

“I think we’re all frustrated,” Jones said. “I know I’ve got to play better and I’m going to work as hard as I possibly can to do that.”

To make matters worse, rookie center John Michael Schmitz and tight end Daniel Bellinger left the loss and didn’t return due to injury. Both were hurt on the same play in the first quarter when the Giants went for it on fourth-and-1 and failed. New York already was without star running back Saquon Barkley and left tackle Andrew Thomas. They are questionable for Sunday.

About the only bright spot was second-year DE Kayvon Thibodeaux recording two sacks and a pass breakup. Thibodeaux may be coming on as a pass rusher — after finishing with four sacks over 14 games as a rookie last year, he now was three sacks across his past two contests in 2023. Anyone searching for positives can focus on the defense. Seattle finished with 281 total yards and 13 first downs and converted just three of 12 third-down opportunities.

Why Bet on Miami?

The Dolphins looked like perhaps the NFL’s best team the first three weeks but were dominated 48-20 in Buffalo on Sunday. Both teams scored on their first two offensive drives Sunday, flashing potential for an offensive shootout. After the Dolphins tied the game with 12:52 remaining in the first half, however, the Bills outscored them 34-6 the rest of the way. The loss was the Dolphins’ ninth in their past 10 meetings with Buffalo, the lone win coming in Week 3 of last season.

Although the Dolphins finished with 393 yards of offense, Buffalo held Miami to 3 of 10 on third down and 0 for 3 on fourth down. The Bills also forced two turnovers and sacked Tua Tagovailoa four times. The Dolphins had allowed just one sack in their first three games.

Tagovailoa completed 25 of 35 passes for 282 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed twice for seven yards, committed a fumble that he recovered and picked up a second loose ball. De’Von Achane rushed eight times for 101 yards and two touchdowns and brought in three of five targets for 19 yards. The standout rookie recorded his fifth and sixth touchdowns in the last two games via three- and 10-yard scoring runs in the first and second quarters, respectively.

He is the fourth player in NFL history to score six touchdowns in his first three career games, joining running backs Kareem Hunt (2017), Billy Sims (1980) and Dutch Sternaman (1920) and is just the fourth rookie (RB Doug Martin in 2012, RB Mike Anderson twice in 2000 and WR Randy Moss in 1998) since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to total at least six touchdowns in a two-game span.

Pro Bowl left tackle Terron Armstead, who suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s loss to the Bills, will be out for a matter of “weeks, not days,” according to head coach Mike McDaniel. Kendall Lamm will be the man at left tackle for the Dolphins while Armstead is out. He will ” play again this season” despite the unclear return date.

The Dolphins have gained 2,044 total yards of offense, the most by any team in the first four games of a season in NFL history. Those 2,044 yards have led to 20 touchdowns and 150 points. Miami is one of just five teams in the Super Bowl era (since 1966) to record 20+ TDs in their first four games of a season.

Miami’s hot start hasn’t included great defensive play: It ranks 24th in EPA per play on that side of the ball. The Fins miss trade acquisition and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who will miss much of the season injured.
