NFL Indianapolis Colts Odds: Top Betting Games to consider in Regular Season

The Indianapolis Colts are starting over at quarterback – we just can’t be sure yet whether that will happen Week 1 or not. Indy will have a brand new starter regardless but it will be either veteran Gardner Minshew or rookie No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson out of Florida. He’s a physical stud along the lines of Cam Newton but also very raw. Let’s see the Colts’ first four games and their NFL odds in them.

Indianapolis Colts: Top Games to Bet in Regular Season Week 1-4 | NFL Lines by MyBookie

NFL Regular Season: September 7, 2023 – January 7, 2024

In their preseason opener, the Colts lost 23-19 to Buffalo … and Richardson did struggle some, which is to be expected. He felt rushed by pressure on his only his third dropback and sailed a high pass that was intercepted by Bills cornerback Dane Jackson to end the Colts’ first drive. There also might have been miscommunication with wideout Isaiah McKenzie on the play.

But Richardson settled in, engineering two lengthy drives as he closed out the first quarter of his NFL debut. He finished 7 of 12 for 67 yards, the INT, and added two carries for seven yards before being replaced by Minshew, who got sacked on back-to-back plays to open his first drive. The veteran diced up Bills backups on the next possession, going 6 of 6 for 72 yards, leading Indy to a Jake Funk TD run to close out the first half.

“I thought he had great poise,” first-year Colts coach Shane Steichen said. “I knew we had the early interception. That’s my fault. We’ve got to do a better job communicating on that one. … That starts with coaching, starts with myself. Other than that, I thought he was efficient.”

Most coaches name their Week 1 regular season starter after the second preseason games. There will be some good news for the Colts this week: Pro Bowl running back Jonathan Taylor has been away from camp because he’s unhappy about his contract and wanted to be traded, but he’s going to return at some point this week. Taylor has been rehabilitating an ankle injury at an out-of-state facility since early last week, choosing to continue his recovery there rather than with team personnel.

Jaguars (+3.5)

Week 1 Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
When: Sunday, September 10, 1:00pm ET
TV/Streaming: FOX

It’s rather rare to see the Jacksonville Jaguars as road favorites, but they are on the way up after winning the AFC South last year and upsetting the Chargers in the playoffs before losing in Kansas City. The Colts in 2022 played five of their six AFC South games in the first seven weeks of the season; this year, the Colts play four of their six AFC South games in the first six weeks of the season. Indy last year went 1-3-1 in those first five divisional games – meaning they were unable to finish .500 or better in the AFC South by Week 7. A strong start to the 2023 season would coincide with a strong early showing in the division. The Colts won just four games last year but did beat the visiting Jaguars 34-27 in Week 6. Matt Ryan threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Alec Pierce, who caught it just over the hands of a defender with 17 seconds left. Ryan is long gone now.

Texans (pick’em)

Week 2 at NRG Stadium, Houston, TX
When: Sunday, September 17, 1:00pm ET
TV/Streaming: FOX

This might be the only chance the Colts have of being favored on the road all year. Houston also likely will be starting a rookie QB in CJ Stroud, the No. 2 overall pick this year. These teams played Week 1 last year in Houston and it was a 20-20 tie – really a win for Indy as it was down big early. The Texans led 20-3 entering the fourth quarter in coach Lovie Smith’s debut, but Ryan led three successive scoring drives, culminating with his 15-yard touchdown pass to Michael Pittman with 1:54 remaining. Alas, neither could do much in OT; the Colts missed a 42-yard field goal.

Ravens (-7)

Week 3 at M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD
When: Sunday, September 24, 1:00pm ET
TV/Streaming: CBS

Yeah, this could get ugly as Baltimore looks like it will be a major player in the AFC once it was able to re-sign Lamar Jackson. Since John Harbaugh took charge of the Ravens in 2008, Baltimore is 5-0 at home against Indianapolis (playoffs included). They last played in Charm City in Week 5 of the 2021 season on Monday night and the Ravens won 31-25 in OT. Jackson threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Brown on the first possession of overtime. Jackson threw for 442 yards and four touchdowns, including a pair of short TD passes to Mark Andrews in the fourth quarter as the Ravens rallied from a 25-9 deficit.

Rams (pick’em)

Week 4 Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
When: Sunday, October 1, 1:00pm ET
TV/Streaming: FOX

Are you aware that in the early 1970s, owners Carroll Rosenbloom and Robert Irsay traded the Colts and Rams franchises? There is another current tie between the franchise: New Colts kicker Matt Gay, who wasn’t brought back after last year by LA. The 2021 Pro Bowler made 60 of 64 field goals (94 percent) over his last two seasons with the Rams. In his career, Gay is 28/32 (88 percent) on field goals in the fourth quarter and has made all 34 of his PATs. The NFL average, from 2019-2022, on fourth quarter field goals is 84 percent; on PATs, it’s 94 percent. It’s almost hard to believe the Rams were Super Bowl champions just two seasons ago as they have essentially torn it down to the studs other than Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald.
