Updated Odds to Win the Super Bowl in Late May

Updated Odds to Win the Super Bowl in Late May

No matter any time you check the NFL odds in this offseason, barring something catastrophic happening to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the defending Super Bowl champions will be favored to win the Super Bowl. Kansas City’s starting to trend toward a dynastic run, having appeared in five straight AFC Championship games.

With two Super Bowl wins already under his belt, Mahomes will be eager to try and add more hardware this season while he still has Andy Reid at coach along with star tight end Travis Kelce to help him move the ball. But success, as always, is fleeting in the NFL. While the Cheifs are the favorites at +590 to win the Super Bowl, no team has gone back to back since the New England Patriots won Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

Hurts has to Prove Last Season Wasn’t a Fluke

The Philadelphia Eagles gave Kansas City all it could handle in last year’s Super Bowl. However, the Eagles still need to prove that quarterback Jalen Hurts can handle the beating of playing a full NFL season every year. Philadelphia will also have fierce competition within the division from New York and Dallas.

The Eagles are +760 to win and are likely to be very good, but their are some questions about if things are sustainable.

The AFC is Quarterback Rich

Four of the top six teams in the Super Bowl odds hail from the American Football Conference. Besides Kansas City, the Buffalo Bills (+840), Cincinnati Bengals (+890) and New York Jets (+1325) all have high hopes for the season thanks to their strong players behind center. The Bengals have Joe Burrow, who led Cincinnati to a Super Bowl appearance two years ago.

While Josh Allen hasn’t been able to break Buffalo’s cold spell since last playing in the big game, he still has all the physical tools to be a great player. Allen will need to cut down on his turnovers and take care of his body if Buffalo is going to be successful. The New York Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers in the offseason. The trade for the former Packers QB could end up being a disaster for the Jets, but they were willing to roll the dice.

Can 49ers Figure Out Their Quarterback Situation?

San Francisco (+850) is another highly-regarded team, but have questions at quarterback. The 49ers traded Jimmy Garoppolo in the offseason and will be leaning on former first-round pick Trey Lance tto start the season.

There is a chance that last year’s good field story, Brock Purdy, could crack the lineup too. Kyle Shanahan isn’t afraid to think differently and may surprise people.

The Best of the Rest

The Cowboys (+1400) won a playoff game last season and should be contenders in the AFC. The Ravens (+1975) were able to work out a deal with Lamar Jackson for him to return. While the Ravens have slid in recent years. Detroit (+2100) is an interesting team.

The Lions have a high-powered offense, but must improve their defense to win.
