The Charlotte 49ers joined The American in 2023 after a 10 season run in Conference USA. Charlotte has earned regular and post-season championships in three different conferences, as well as a victory in the College Basketball Invitational.

As far as rivalries go, Charlotte has both in-conference and regional rivalries and each with its own unique dynamic within the basketball world. Let’s start with The American rivalry: Florida Atlantic Owls, Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, and Old Dominion Monarchs. As for Florida Atlantic regional rivalries, we have the Davidson Wildcats and Appalachian State Mountaineers. The 49ers have a couple rivalries that deserve mention due to latest encounters between them: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and North Carolina A&T Aggies.
