NFL Power Rankings 2023: Expert Analysis After Week 1

2023 NFL Week 1 Power Rankings Analysis

It was not a good week to be a Super Bowl favorite, with many of the supposed big guns going down hard in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season. If we have learned anything over the years, though, it’s that we should not get too up or down based on the results of a single game. Teams that lost in the opening week will recover, while surprise winners will likely fold and find their true level as the season progresses. All of that aside, the results from Week 1 have had an impact on the Power Rankings, so let’s take a look to consider in your NFL betting.

NFL 2023 Power Rankings of the Week 2 | NFL Odds, American Football NFL Lines by MyBookie Sportsbook

San Francisco 49ers

Brock Purdy’s arm looks fine, and the 49ers very much looked a complete team in an opening week blowout of the Steelers on the road.

Philadelphia Eagles

It was perhaps a little more difficult than a lot of people expected, but the Eagles found a way to win against the Patriots.

Jacksonville Jaguars

There were certainly times when the Jags did not look great on offense, yet they still managed to put up 31 points. Look out when this offense starts to click.

Kansas City Chiefs

The defending Super Bowl champions lost at home, but I imagine they will be fine as soon as they get Travis Kelce back in the lineup.

Dallas Cowboys

We figured the defense would be good this season, which they were in a shutout win, but the Cowboys looked like a complete package in Week 1.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens struggled at times against a weak Texans team, but they still got the win, although losing JK Dobbins for the season is a major blow.

Cleveland Browns

Their win over the Bengals in the season opener may well serve as proof that the AFC North might be a coin flip this season.

Miami Dolphins

If they can keep Tua healthy all season long, we might see some great things from this Dolphins team, although they are going to need to tighten up on defense.

Green Bay Packers

It was the ideal way to begin life as the starter for Jordan Love, but you do have to say that the defense looked solid too in a win over the Bears.

Detroit Lions

One of the sexy dark horse picks for the season, the Lions lived up to the hype by going into KC and beating the Chiefs. Still a long way to go, though.

New York Jets

Beating the Bills should have this team higher on the list, but potentially losing Aaron Rodgers for the season will keep them grounded for now.

Buffalo Bills

You simply cannot excuse a Super Bowl favorite for losing to a team that lost their starting QB in the opening drive of the game. Are the Bills in trouble?

Cincinnati Bengals

Missing the preseason may have hurt Joe Burrow more than expected, but no panic in Cincy just yet.

Washington Commanders

It’s always good to get a Week 1 win, but the Commanders will need to be a whole lot better moving forward.

Los Angeles Chargers

This team won’t have any problems scoring, but if the D can’t hold up their end of the bargain, it could be a long season.

New Orleans Saints

Yes, it just 1 game, but Derek Carr looked solid as the starter for the Saints.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Not much expected from this team in 2023, but a road win against Minnesota is a very solid start.

Pittsburgh Steelers

All that preseason hype may have died with a horrible showing in Week 1.

Atlanta Falcons

They looked good on the ground, but I’m still not sold on Ridder at QB.

LA Rams

Another team expected to struggle got an unexpected win on the road in Seattle.

Seattle Seahawks

Nothing went well for this team in their home opener. Was Geno Smith a 1-season wonder?

NY Giants

There was nothing positive to take from their blowout loss to the Cowboys.

Tennessee Titans

It was a nightmare start to the season for Ryan Tannehill, who threw 3 INTs.

Minnesota Vikings

With the Eagles up next, Minnesota is looking down the barrel of an 0-2 start.

Las Vegas Raiders

A good start to the year with a road win in Denver, but we are not getting carried away.

Denver Broncos

While efficient, Russell Wilson and the Broncos did not have many chunk plays.

New England Patriots

It took the offense some time to get going, but it was ultimately a Week 1 loss.

Carolina Panthers

Not a great start for rookie Bryce Young, but that was to be expected.

Indianapolis Colts

Some bright spots for their rookie QB, but a loss is still a loss.

Chicago Bears

This is a team that looked bad on both sides of the football in Week 1.

Houston Texans

Things were as bad as expected. Enough said.

Arizona Cardinals

No Kyler Murray and no real hope for the season, which promises to be a long one for the Cardinals.
