Last Meeting
This is the only scheduled meeting of the season between the schools, although obviously they could meet in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Last year, Dayton won both meetings. The one in Chicago was 65-49. Dayton took the lead with 19:40 left in the first half and did not give it up. The score was 28-20 at halftime, with Daron Holmes racking up 12 points. Dayton pulled away with a 13-1 run in the second half to extend an eight-point lead to 20 points. Holmes led the Flyers with 20 points and 10 rebounds but is not with the team this season. Dayton leads the all-time series, 35-15.
Why Bet on Dayton?
Dayton (22-5, 12-3 A-10) avoided a possible trap game Tuesday by beating Davidson 80-66. After going down 6-0 in the first minute, the more physical Flyers jumped on Davidson (15-13, 5-10), mounting a 24-4 run over 8:27 in the middle of the first half. Brea scored 14 in the half, including 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, and the Flyers led 40-21 at the break. The Wildcats closed within 13 early in the second half but never really got back in the game.
“I thought defensively we got great efforts across the board,” Dayton coach Anthony Grant said. “I thought offensively, the ball movement in the first half was as good as we’ve had in quite some time. I thought we really shared the ball. When you look at the stat sheet and you see six guys in double figures, I think that’s indicative of what this team is capable of.” Grant is on the Naismith National Coach of the Year the Late-Season Watch List.
Dayton outrebounded Davidson by 11, 38-27 and had 10 second-chance points to Davidson’s zero. UD improved to 20-0 when leading with five minutes left in the game. Dayton leads the A-10 in scoring defense (64.6 ppg.). Six Flyers produced double-digit scoring nights: Koby Brea scored 17 (14 in the first half), Enoch Cheeks had 15 (11 in the first half), Kobe Elvis had 11, and DaRon Holmes II and Nate Santos each added 10. Holmes had 10 rebounds to lead UD and record his ninth double-double of the season.
Holmes, a junior forward, is on four prestigious preseason watch lists — Naismith Award (Mid-Season Top 30), John R. Wooden Award (Late Season Top 20), the Oscar Robertson Watch List (top 40) and the Karl Malone Award (finalist). Holmes leads the A-10 in scoring (20.2) and UD in rebounding (8.0). He is the only player in the league’s top eight in scoring, rebounding, FG%, and blocked shots. Holmes is now the Dayton career record holder for blocked shots (205) and dunks (230).
Holmes and Purdue star Zach Edey, who will be the National Player of the Year, are the only players in D-I who have more than 50 blocks, 50 dunks and 50 assists. Holmes has 58, 60 and 69 respectively. Holmes also has 26 threes and is shooting .371 (26-70) from deep. He had just seven threes in his first two years at UD. He has been national player of the week three times and has been A-10 Player of the Week five times in conference play.
Brea leads the nation in three-point shooting at .491 (78-159). As a team, Dayton is eighth in the nation from behind the arc at .393 – the school record is .392. Brea is third at UD in career three-point shooting at .426. Javon Bennett leads the A-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.5) by nearly a full assist (2.6).
Why Bet on Loyola Ramblers?
The Loyola Ramblers (20-8, 12-3 A-10) had a seven-game winning streak snapped in a 79-64 loss at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday. The Bonnies took the lead with 12:17 left in the first half and never looked back. Bona’s defense caused havoc for the Ramblers during the first half. St. Bonaventure forced 13 Loyola turnovers and held a 19-0 margin in points off turnovers by intermission. After a 41-26 halftime lead, Saint Bonaventure pulled away with a 13-3 run in the second half for a 21-point lead.
One of the top defensive teams in the nation, Loyola entered the night surrendering just 59 points per game. The Bonnies never wavered after the slow start, however, shooting 50 percent from the floor after opening 0-5. The Bonnies got the Ramblers into foul trouble and were nearly perfect at the foul line, going 26-for-29. Loyola also entered as the A-10’s best 3-point shooting team percentage-wise, but struggled in going 10-for-31 from distance, shooting 15 percent under their season average from deep.
The Ramblers were led by Philip Alston and Braden Norris who scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Des Watson flirted with a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds. He also dished out five assists.
“I thought we had good intentions,” said head coach Drew Valentine. “Today was similar to our losses earlier this year. Just a lack of competitive discipline that put us in a position where we were scratching and clawing from behind. A bunch of guys didn’t have it tonight and that’s okay. We’re not going to have it every night and not play perfect every night.”
Alston is on a six-game double-figure scoring streak. Norris needs just 15 more assists to record 500 career assists as a Rambler. He will finish his career ranked fourth on the Loyola charts. In addition to assists, Norris needs just one more start to be the program’s all-time leader. The sixth-year guard also needs 16 more three-pointers made to be the all-time career leader at 263. Over the last five games, Watson has recorded at least five rebounds in each. He is now the team’s leading rebounder with 4.8 per game. Dame Adelekun leads Loyola shooting 61.1 percent from the field for second best in the league.
In league play, the Ramblers lead the A-10 averaging 16.53 assists per game. It’s nearly 2.0 more assists per game than UMass in second. Loyola has the second-best field goal percentage defense in the league, holding their opponents to just 39.8 percent from the field.
Dayton Flyers vs. Loyola Ramblers Final Betting Thoughts
Both teams are coming off wins, which makes betting on the game interesting. Dayton is 12-3 in the A-10 conference, while Loyola is 13-2 at home this season.
Loyola has a 2-game winning streak between these two teams and even by 10 points. As far as history goes, Dayton has dominated the series as they have won 14 of the last 18 meetings.

Why Bet on Southern Illinois? | 2021 NCAA Basketball Expert Analysis
Southern Illinois (11-11, 5-11 MVC) snapped a two-game skid Monday with a 67-64 home win over Valparaiso. SIU stretched its lead back out to double figures and owned an 11-point edge with three minutes to play. The Salukis struggled to hit late free throws, though, while Sheldon Edwards trimmed the deficit to six with a 3 at the 1:14 mark, then a second-chance triple by Eron Gordon made it 61-57 with 41 seconds to go.Trent Brown made two free throws with eight seconds left to give Southern Illinois a six-point lead before Sigurd Lorange capped it at the other end with a 3-pointer. Valpo scored 13 points in the final 1:14 of the contest but still couldn’t quite catch up.
The Salukis shot 53.2% from the field and dished 15 assists. Lance Jones scored a game-high 21 points to lead five Salukis in double-figures; Steven Verplancken Jr. (12), Kyler Filewich (11), Dalton Banks (10), and Ben Harvey (10) all reached double-figures, as well. Harvey dished out a career-high five assists in the first half alone, and SIU outrebounded the bigger Valpo squad.
“Valpo is an extremely physical, tough, long, and athletic team,” SIU coach Bryan Mullins said. “After our slow start, I thought our guys were really determined to get this win. They played with great toughness and physicality. It was a team win. Everyone contributed. Everyone stepped up. We need to build on this. There were some really good moments defensively that we can continue to grow on and take with us for the rest of the season.”
SIU is 7-0 when it outrebounds its opponent and is 8-1 when it scores 67+ points. Since returning from a 21-day COVID break in January (10 games), SIU has been without leading scorer Marcus Domask, who is week-to-week with a left foot injury but not expected to play this weekend. Domask was the MVC Freshman of the Year last season.
Why Bet on Loyola Chicago? | 2021 NCAA Basketball Expert Analysis
The likely Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year this season is Loyola’s Cameron Krutwig. Three years after helping his team make the shocking run to the Final Four in 2018, Krutwig is now a legitimate candidate for All-American honors after averaging 15.0 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 3.0 APG, 1.0 BPG and 1.0 SPG thus far. He also is a key player for Loyola, on defense, where the team is currently first in adjusted efficiency on KenPom.The Ramblers (19-4, 14-2 MVC) haven’t yet won the conference regular-season title, though, as it is battling Drake. Loyola has been off since a Feb. 17 54-52 win over Valparaiso. Ben Krikke’s potential game-tying jumper with three seconds left was off the mark, but Goodnews Kpegeol appeared to tie the game and send it to overtime with a last-second put-back. However, Kpegeol was called for a foul and the Ramblers escaped with the two-point win.
Loyola got off to a slow start offensively. The Ramblers went scoreless for more than seven minutes and made just three of their first 15 field-goal attempts, including 1 for 6 on 3-pointers. Keith Clemons finished with a game-high 16 points and added five rebounds, while Krutwig delivered 13 points, six boards and five assists for Loyola.
With his five assists, Krutwig moved into a tie for 19thplace on Loyola’s career assists chart with 349 helpers. He is the only player in program history to rank in Loyola’s all-time top 10 in points, rebounds and assists.
Krutwig, the only player in Loyola history to rank in the program’s top 10 in points (1,713), rebounds (882) and assists (349), also is one of only four players in the storied history of the Missouri Valley Conference to have 1,500 career points, 800 career rebounds and 300 career assists, joining Oscar Robertson (Cincinnati), Larry Bird (Indiana State) and Hersey Hawkins (Bradley).
The Ramblers have prevailed in 12 of their last 13 contests overall and have won 20 straight games at home, which is the fifth-longest, active home-court winning streak in the nation. The Ramblers have also won 18 consecutive Missouri Valley Conference home games

Rhode Island vs Dayton Season Series
First meeting. Last year they split, each winning on the road. It was 72-70 in OT for the Rams at Dayton. Cyril Langevine had 26 points and Fatts Russell added 23 points. Langevine hit 12 of 14 shots. He added eight rebounds and three blocks. Obi Toppin had 26 points plus 11 rebounds and seven assists for the Flyers. Ryan Mikesell scored -high 23 points and had 11 rebounds. Toppin tied it at 63 with 40 seconds left in regulation and neither team scored in the final minute of overtime.
Why Bet on Rhode Island?
The Rams (18-5, 10-1 A-10) won their 10th in a row Saturday, 82-51 at George Washington. Rhody was ahead by as many as 20 points in the first half, taking control immediately with an 8-1 burst and never letting up. With the offense clicking, URI ended the first half on a 17-4 run, holding the Colonials to one field goal over the final 8:04.
The Rams shot 57.1 percent (16-of-28) from the floor in the opening half, including six makes from 3-point territory. The dominance continued after the break as Rhody held the Colonials to just one field goal over the first 9:09 while steadily expanding the lead. The Rams pushed their advantage to as many as 35 points.
The win improved Rhode Island to 5-0 in Atlantic 10 road games. Dating back to last season, the Rams have now won seven straight conference games away from the Ryan Center. Rhode Island did not trail at any point against GW, marking the second game in a row – and third time this season – the Rams never played from behind.
Junior Fatts Russell scored 24 points for his 15th 20-point game of the season, and 25th of his career. He hit a season-high six attempts from long range. Senior Cyril Langevine recorded his sixth double-double of the season, and team-leading 29th of his career. He finished the game with 11 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.
On Monday, Langevine was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. It is the second career conference honor for the senior. For the week, Langevine was 9-for-11 from the floor (.818), missing just one field goal in each game. He also made his first career 3-pointer, which came on the first shot of the game at GW.
A win against the Flyers would move Rhody into a tie for the top spot in the Atlantic 10 standings.
Why Bet on Dayton?
Dayton is 21-2, with both losses in OT to Top 20-caliber teams — Kansas in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational finals and Colorado in a buzzer-beater at the Chicago Legends. The Flyers are in the top six for only the fourth season in school history. They reached a school-best No. 2 during the 1955-56 season. They also were in the top six in 1954-55 and 1967-68.
The Flyers have won 12 games in a row for the first time since they won 13 in 2007-08, and are 10-0 in the A-10 for the first time ever. They beat Saint Louis 71-65 on Saturday. The officials called 39 fouls in a physical game. Dayton went 20 of 27 from the line, while Saint Louis was 10 of 16. Saint Louis’ leading scorer, Hasahn French, fouled out of the game with 5:12 left in the second half; he was leading the Billikens with 15 points and eight rebounds. Dayton’s Jordy Tshimanga also fouled out.
The Flyers were led by roommates Obi Toppin and Jalen Crutcher with 17 points each. Toppin scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, with four rebounds and two assists. Crutcher scored 17 points on 4-of-13 shooting, 8-of-8 from the line.
Toppin is a fabulous player. He is on the watch list of five national awards, including the Wooden Late Season Watch List. And ESPN’s Jay Bilas has called Toppin the country’s best player. Among active D-I players, he is fifth in career field goal percentage (.6466, 382-591).
The key for Dayton here is going to be scoring inside; Rhode Island has one of the best 3-point defenses in the country but is vulnerable around the rim. That works to Dayton’s favor.

Previous Betting News
With so many games on the board, especially in the first round, during March Madness, it can be easy to overlook some of the lines that are up there. We have said before that it’s easy to look at the seeding of the teams involved and simply plop down your money on the higher seeded team. That’s a system that will regularly work in the opening round, but there are also times when it will backfire. You can bet that a lot of punters will have their money on #7 Dayton, as they are listed as an underdog against a Wichita State team that is only seeded #10. There are times when those rankings need to be tossed out the window, and I believe that this is one of them. Seeds 10 through 12 have proven to be the way to go when looking for an upset pick, and that trend may very well be in play again with this one. If you want to watch games where the upset, at least in terms of seeding, is on the cards, then tune in to this game. Find the updated college basketball betting lines here.
A Closer Look At The Shockers Vs Flyers Free Pick, Lines & TV Info
When: Friday, March 17 at 7:10 PM EST
Where: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis
TV: CBS
NCAAB Odds: TBA
Why bet on the Wichita State Shockers
One of the biggest strengths of this Shockers team is their depth on the bench, which may explain why they have been so good on the defensive side of the ball this season. They are able to use a revolving door of players, which in turn allows them to maintain a pretty solid full court press throughout the entire game. This team is not just all about the smothering D, though, as they can also beat you from outside the line. Connor Frankamp, who transferred in from Kansas, has been lighting it up from 3-point range to the tune of a 44% average. If this team can get the deep ball going, they could run away with this one. The Shockers are 18-12-1 ATS as a favorite this season.
Why bet on the Dayton Flyers
Despite being the higher seeded of the two teams, the Dayton Flyers are heading into their opening round tilt as a 6-point underdog. It is a role that has served them well in the limited number of times that they have had to play it this season, going 4-1 ATS when they are the dog. This is a good team filled with veteran talent, but they have a tendency to get bullied against more physical opponents, and the fact that they are averaging under 70% from the free throw line as a team is a little worrying. If they get dragged into a shootout with the Shockers, which is a possibility, it is that free throw average that could come back to haunt them.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
UPSET ALERT!! This is really only an upset in terms of the seeding of these two teams, as I still have the favorite winning. I think that the Shockers end up winning this one rather comfortably.

Previous Betting News
On Saturday, the VCU Rams and Dayton Flyers will square off in an A-10 conference battle of two of the best ‘underrated’ ball clubs in the country. Better yet is the fact that you’re going to have a great chance to cash in with a potentially winning NCAA hoops odds wager thanks to the expert betting advice you’re about to get on this intriguing pairing. With that said and tip-off time quickly approaching, let’s get started.
How to Bet the VCU Rams vs. Dayton Flyers NCAAB Odds & TV Info
When: Saturday March 5, 8:00 PM ET
Where: University of Dayton Arena, Dayton, Ohio
TV: CBSS
NCAAB Odds: TBA
Why Bet the VCU Rams
VCU (22-8 SU, 17-8 ATS) looks like a good bet in this contest because they’re playing excellent basketball at just the right time. The Rams have won two straight and five of their last six games overall including their 70-60 win over Davidson on Wednesday despite narrowly failing to cover the spread as an 11-point home favorite.
VCU got a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds from Mo Alle-Cox and 16 points from Melvin Johnson in the win. The Rams are 17-5 ATS in their last 22 games following a straight up win and average 77.4 points per game while limiting the opposition to just 67.0 points per contest defensively.
Why Bet the Dayton Flyers
The Flyers (23-6 SU, 12-15 ATS) look like a great wager because they’re playing at home. Dayton has won two of its last three games including its narrow 85-84 win over Richmond as a 1.5-point road favorite on Tuesday night. The Flyers got a team-high 26 points from Scoochie Smith and 21 points from Charles Cooke in the win while shooting an incendiary 58.0 percent from the field in the win.
The Flyers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and average 73.3 points per game while limiting the opposition to just 65.6 points per contest defensively.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
VCU has won two of the last three meetings against Dayton including their 71-65 road win as a 2-point underdog almost one year ago to the day. With that said and the Rams playing better basketball than Dayton coming into this matchup, I like VCU to get the ATS cover by recording the outright road win.
Dayton is 1-4 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a winning road record and 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. Conversely, VCU has gone 4-0 ATS in their last four road games against a team with a winning home record, 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning straight up record and 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games.
My final score prediction: VCU 77 Dayton 72

Previous Betting News
The A 10 Conference is not one of the more glamorous set-ups in college basketball, but the Dayton Flyers are making hoops fans sit up and take notice. They are atop the conference heading into the final few weeks of the season, but they are going to have to withstand some serious challenges if they hope to stay there. The Flyers face a tricky one on Friday when they face the Rhode Island Rams. The odds for this one will be posted on our online sportsbook’s NCAAB odds page as soon as they are available.
How to bet Dayton Flyers Vs Rhode Island Rams NCAAB Game and Tv Info
When: Friday, February 12
Where: Thoma M. Ryan Center, Kingston, Rhode Island
TV: ESPN2
This will be the first of two meetings between these teams in the next couple of weeks, and both of them will be looking to set the tone for the rivalry. The Flyers are likely to come in as the road favorite in this one, but you should certainly not count out the Rams, as they have a winning record in conference play.
Why bet on the Dayton Flyers
It has been a truly magnificent season for Dayton (20-3, 10-1), as they have cruised to the top of the A 10 conference, and are currently ranked #19 nationally. They have bounced back really well from a loss to La Salle at the beginning of conference play, and have since reeled off 8 straight wins without breaking too much of a sweat. The Flyers very much look like the class of this conference, and you can bet that they will be looking to run the table the rest of the way. With all the teams ranked above them slipping up on a regular basis, the Flyers will be looking to move on up in the rankings in the final few games of the season. Dayton are averaging 74.5 PPG, and are giving up 64.0 PPG.
Why bet on the Rhode Island Rams
As mentioned earlier, the Rhode Island Rams (14-10, 6-5) have a winning record in conference play, and are not a team that should be overlooked. They are coming into this game on a modest 2-game winning streak, but they have been playing some pretty good ball in those wins. The Rams have only faced 2 other ranked opponents so far this season, and they gave the Providence Friars a real scare in their last one, which they eventually lost 74-72. The Rams have won 7 of their last 8 games at home, with the only loss in that stretch being the defeat to Providence. Rhode Island are averaging 70.4 PPG, and are giving up 64.0 PPG.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
The Rams are a tough team to knock off in their own building, but you have to feel that Dayton may be just a little too much for them to handle. I feel as though this will be closer than many people expect, but I still think Dayton gets the win.
