The next huge race for three year olds happens on Saturday when top Triple Crown race ponies head to Monmouth for the Haskell Stakes.

Belmont Stakes Dornoch plans on breaking from the gate.

Also on Saturday, Saratoga runs the Coaching Club American Oaks and the Grade 2 San Clemente happens at Del Mar.

Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks

1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies

Saratoga

So far, connections for just five runners have decided to enter their fillies into the Coaching Club American Oaks.

The reason is because two of the runners, Kentucky Derby winner Thorpedo Anna and Todd Pletcher trained Leslie’s Rose, look like they will dominate.

Anna won the Grade 1 Acorn while Rose finished second.

Pletcher has another runner in Candied, which is a logical contender and will offer a square price.

Grade 2 United Nations

1 3/8 miles turf – 3 year olds and up
Saturday, July 20
Monmouth Park

Twelve runners are likely to go, which will make the Grade 2 United Nations one of this weekend’s most competitive graded events.

Christophe Clement plans on running two, Tawny Port and Far Bridge.

Chad Brown will also run a couple: Running Bee and Adhamo.

Todd Pletcher goes with Grand Sonata and Emmanuel.

Get Smokin’, Fort Washington, and Dataman are other contenders.

Grade 1 Haskell Stakes

1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds
Saturday, July 20
Monmouth Park

The top two finishers in the Belmont, Dornoch and Mindframe, resume their rivalry.

The top play, though, could end up Todd Pletcher trained and Florida Derby winner Fierceness.

At 1 1/8 miles, Fierceness projects to get the early lead.

If Dornoch goes with, it may set it up for an underdog closer like Tuscan Sky, Jasper’s Pride, or Brad Cox trained Timberlake.

Just Step On and Sea Streak are two more that will run.

Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes

1 mile turf – 3 year old fillies
Saturday, July 20
Del Mar

A full field of twelve should go in the San Clemente Stakes.

Top contenders include Richard Mandella trained Rascality, Sea Dancer from the Tim Yakteen barn, and Phil D’Amato’s Loterie.

Invincible Molly, another D’Amato runner, Iscreamuscream, and one more from the Mandella barn, Alluring, will attract action.

John Sadler trained Antifona could fly under the radar.

Keep an eye out for the Sadler filly.

Grade 2 Shuvee Stakes

1 1/8 miles over dirt – 4 year old fillies and mares
Sunday, July 21
Saratoga

Another short field awaits horseplayers handicapping the Grade 2 Shuvee.

Only five are likely to break from the gate.

No doubt, Chad Brown trained Raging Sea will go off the chalk followed by Cherie DeVaux’s horse, Shotgun Hottie.

Venti Valentine, Misty Veil, and Just Valentine should also run.

The Shuvee could end up a rider’s race.

So handicap jockeys as well as horses.

Top Stakes Races for the Weekdend

One of the top horse racing meets of the year breaks from the gate starting on Friday when many of the best thoroughbreds in the world begin running at Saratoga Racecourse.

On Friday, 3 year olds hit the dirt at The Spa for the Wilton Stakes.

Then on Saturday, Saratoga runs their first Grade 1 event of the meet, the Diana.

Prepare for horse racing odds by checking out more information for five fantastic stakes races happening at Saratoga this weekend.

Writer’s Top Races Picks Happening this Weekend.

Wilton Stakes

1 mile dirt – 3 year old fillies

Todd Pletcher may have his peers over a barrel.

Pletcher saddles a couple of 3 year old fillies, Miss Justify and Courbe, in the Wilton.

Chad Brown has a runner in Bell’s Beach.

Those three should vie for favoritism.

Others expected to contest the 1 mile distance include D.

Wayne Lukas trained Lady Moscato, Striker Has Dial from the Horacio de Paz barn, and Dazzling Move and Windy Walk.

Coronation Cup Stakes

5 ½ furlongs turf – 3 year olds

13 runners will head to the Coronation Cup Stakes starting gate. Mark Casse has a contender in Dancing Duchess.

Todd Pletcher saddles Value Area, Linda Rice puts the tack on Golden Degree, and Brad Cox has entered Ever So Sweet.

The favorite is likely to be Charles Appleby trained Star of Mystery. Although Star of Mystery hasn’t won since January, she’s faced top competition at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.

The Appleby trainee looks tough to beat.

Grade 3 Kelso Stakes

1 mile turf – 4 year olds and up

Appleby trained Mysterious Night is likely to go off the favorite.

Mysterious Night finished second behind Ice Chocolat in the Grade 3 Poker over the Saratoga course in early June. Ice Chocolat didn’t enter the Kelso.

So Mysterious Night will be tough.

Pletcher has a runner in Talk of the Nation.

The Quality Road sired equine finished third behind Mysterious Night in the Poker.

Chad Brown trained Carl Speckler finished fifth in the Poker.

Carl Speckler could improve.

If the Brown runner does, Speckler may be the one to beat. Call Me Harry, Repo Rocks, and Northern Invader will also run.

Grade 1 Diana Stakes

1 1/8 miles inner turf – 4 year old fillies and mares

The Diana Stakes is one of the top preps for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

This year, 11 runners will go in the Grade 1 Diana. Coppice, trained by Chad Brown, and Moira, from the Kevin Attard barn, should attract the most action.

Of the two, Moira looks best. Even though the Attard equine hasn’t run since the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, she finished third in that race. Also, the works have been good.

Didia, Fluffy Socks, White Beam, and Evvie Jets all have chances to upset the favorites.

Chad Brown is hoping Chili Flag continues her ascension after winning the Just A Game in her last.

Grade 3 Sanford Stakes

6 furlongs dirt – 2 year olds

Todd Pletcher often owns the 2 year old races at Saratoga, which is why horseplayers are going to pound last out maiden winner Mentee to possibly under even odds.

Mentee should beat the competition.

Soontobeking, Steve Asmussen trained Three Echoes, Baby Dukes, and Mr. Squeaky Wheels appear to be running for second place.

War Tax and Mo Plex should also break from the gate.

Adhamo is a Chad Brown runner that remains active. Chad is likely to send Adhamo to the starting gate for the repeat try.

The United Nations Handicap also often attracts international runners. So Aidan O’Brien will likely have a top contender. So will Charles Appleby.

So will My Prospero from the William Haggas barn and John Gosden trained Mosdahdaf.

American trainer Cristophe Clement plans on shipping Big Invasion to run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Big Invasion ran second in the Grade 1 Jaipur on the Belmont Stakes undercard a couple of weeks ago.

The turnaround is fast, but Cristophe must feel Big Invasion has something left in the tank. Charlie Appleby trained Al Suhail finished third in the Grade 1 Al Quoz Spring in the last. Al Suhail will attract plenty of action. So will expected morning line favorite Artorius, the Grade 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner.

Grade 3 Caress Stakes – 5 ½ furlongs turf – 4 year old fillies & mares

At least eight runners will go in the Caress Stakes. Among the eight, Grade 3 Intercontinental winner Caravel and Mark Casse trained Souper Sensational project as the favorites. Others confirmed for the Caress include Toby’s Heart, Time Limit, Intercontinental second place finisher Star Devine, Robin Sparkles, and Bout Time.

Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies

Kenny McPeek trained Butterbean is on a role. The closer has won 3 straight, including the Grade 3 Iowa Derby in her last. On Saturday, Butterbean faces the two best 3-year-old fillies in training, Belmont Stakes second place finisher Nest and Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath. The Coaching Club American Oaks won’t produce a deep field. But the race should be fantastic.

Monmouth | Saturday, July 23

Grade 1 United Nations – 1 3/8 miles turf – 3 year olds & up

Nine runners are confirmed for this year’s United Nations. Chad Brown sends out a couple in Adhamo and Tribhuvan. Cristophe Clement trained Gufo projects as the chalk while All the Above, Epic Bromance, Kentucky Ghost, Glynn County, Mohs, and Temple will offer fair to overlay odds.

Grade 1 Haskell Invitational – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds

The Haskell is the next big three-year-old event after the Belmont Stakes. In this year’s Haskell, Chad Brown figures to put the saddle on the favorite. Jack Cristopher is undefeated and has a couple of grade 1 wins under his belt. Cyberknife, Taiba, We the People, and White Abbario will fight for second choice status. The two long shots will be Howling Time and three-time winner Benevengo.

Del Mar | Saturday, July 23

Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes – 1 mile turf – 3 year olds

Under the Stars isn’t on the short list of confirmed runners who will go in the San Clemente. That’s good news for Lady T. The John Shirreffs trained runner finished second to Under the Stars in the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks in June. Others expected to run include Tezzaray from the Peter Miller barn, Paul D’Amato trained Bellabel, George Papaprodromou trained Lucky Girl, and another D’Amato runner, Island of Love.

Saratoga | Sunday, July 24

Grade 2 Shuvee – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 4 year old fillies & mares

Sunday’s Shuvee showcases some of the top four-year-old fillies and mares in North America. Clariere beat Malathaat and Search Results in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps in her last. The Steve Asmussen trained miss hopes to repeat the Ogden victory. Malaathat and Search Results may change tactics while Brad Cox trained Bonny South should relish the extra distance. The Shuvee will be a great race.

Grade 2 Jim Dandy – 1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds

Three of the most highly-touted runners from the Triple Crown Trail clash on Saturday when Preakness winner Early Voting takes on Kentucky Derby and Preakness second place finisher Epicenter and third-place Derby finisher Zandon. Brad Cox will put the saddle on Tawny Port and D. Wayne Lukas plans on entering Ethereal Road.

Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap – 6 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds

Only one equine is confirmed for the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap, champion sprinter Jackie’s Warrior. Flightline and Speaker’s Corner may join the fray. Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Aloha West, Mind Control from the Todd Pletcher barn, and Mike McCarthy trained Ce Ce may also run.

Del Mar – Saturday, July 30

Grade 2 San Diego Handicap – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year olds and up

Del Mar’s prep for the Grade 1 Pacific Classic should boast a full field. At least 10 runners figure to break from the gate. In addition to rivals Stiletto Boy and Express Train, connections for Country Grammar plan on entering the Dubai World Cup winner. 2021 Kentucky Derby winner Mandaloun will ship from Kentucky to enter the starting gate, and 2021 Pacific Classic winner Tripoli also figures to enter.

Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – 3 year olds and up

Six runners have confirmed for the Bing Crosby on Saturday. Grade 2 Triple Bend winner American Theorem will resume his rivalry against Triple Bend second place finisher Principe Carlo. Others expected to run include Letsgetlucky, Bagboss, Desmond Doss and Howbeit.

Saratoga – Sunday, July 31

Grade 2 Bowling Green – 1 3/8 miles turf – 4 year olds and up

Three runners from three of the best trainers in the world will head to Saratoga’s turf on Sunday. Chad Brown puts the saddle on Rockemperor, Brad Cox will enter Arklow, and Cristophe Clement will go with Soldier Rising. Yibir and Highland Chief may also enter the gate.

Del Mar – Sunday, July 31

Grade 2 Eddie Read – 1 1/8 miles turf – 3 year olds and up

The Eddie Read should attract at least six runners. Master Piece, trained by Mike McCarthy, Paul D’Amato trained Cathkin Peak, Tango Tango Tango from the Jack Sisterson barn, and Ed Moger Jr. will put the saddle on Tarantino. King Cause trained by Mike Maker and Beyond Brilliant from the John Shirreffs barn also figure to run.

Top sprinters Whitmore, Firenze Fire, Mischievous Alex and Strike Power all plan on lining up to contest the 6 furlongs in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap. Other potential runners include Lexitonian, Miles Ahead, Three Technique, and Chance It.

Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes – 1 3/8 miles turf – $250,000

Like in most turf races on the East Coast, trainer Chad Brown will saddle two contenders. Both Rockemperor and Breakpoint have a shot at the Bowling Green win. Brad Cox trained Arklow hopes to bounce back after an off the board finish in the Grade 1 United Nations. Other contenders include Todd Pletcher trained Colonel Liam, Tide of the Sea from the Mike Maker barn, and Bill Mott trained Channel Maker.

Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes – 1 1/8 miles dirt – $600,000

Belmont Stakes winner Essential Quality returns to the track in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy. Risk Taking, Keepmeinmind, Dr Jack, Weyburn, and Grade 3 Ohio Derby winner Masqueparade are set to challenge the Test of Champions winner.

Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – $300,000

2020 Breeders’ Cup Sprint second place finisher CZ Rocket is set for the Grade 1 Bing Crosby. 2020 Bing Crosby winner Collusion Illusion should enter the starting gate to defend his title. Dr. Schivel and Vertical Threat are also probable.

Saratoga Racecourse – Sunday, August 1

Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes – 6 ½ furlongs dirt – $200,000

Steve Asmussen trained Jackie’s Warrior figures to go off the chalk in the Grade 2 Amsterdam on Sunday. Papetu from the Antonio Sano barn and Drain the Clock will vie for second choice money. River Dog and Flash of Mischief should go off at overlay odds.

Del Mar Racetrack – Sunday, August 1

Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – $300,000

Only three are so far probable for the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar. All three are solid horses. Brad Cox saddles Shedaresthedevil, Bob Baffert plans on entering As Time Goes By and Richard Baltas will enter Venetian Harbor. Expect more top mares to throw their hat in the ring the closer we approach the race.

Grade 3 Lake George – 1 mile turf – $150,000

10 horses are likely to enter the starting gate for the Lake George on Friday. Among the ten, both Todd Pletcher and Graham Motion will saddle a runner. Chad Brown hopes to saddle four, including second-place Without Applause finisher Minaun. The favorite should be Runaway Rumour, which won the Without Applause in her last.

Saratoga Racecourse – Saturday, July 24

Grade 3 Caress – 5 ½ furlongs turf – $200,000

So far, just six horses are probable for the Grade 3 Caress. Brian Lynch saddles Toffen, Madeline Must runs from the Christophe Clement barn, Bruce Brown should enter Robin Sparkles, Mike Maker sends likely favorite Jakarta to the gate, and Claude McGaughey goes with Flower Pint while Elizabeth Merryman puts the saddle on Caravel.

Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks – 1 1/8 miles dirt – $500,000

Heading into the week, the Coaching Club American Oaks figures to attract at least 6 runners. Among those, Todd Pletcher trained Malathaat could go off at less than even money. Clairiere and Army Wife hope to turn the tables on the undefeated Kentucky Oaks winner.

Del Mar Racetrack – Saturday, July 24

Grade 2 Eddie Read – 1 1/8 miles turf – $250,000

Richard Mandella hopes an Eddie Read victory on Saturday puts United on the path to the Breeders’ Cup Turf. United may face five other horses, Red King, Independence Hall, Award Winner, Restrainedvengeance, and Count Again.

Grade 2 San Clemente – 1 mile turf – $200,000

Five horses are probable for the Grade 2 San Clemente. Tetragonal runs for Richard Baltas while Pizzaz goes for Richard Mandella. Leonard Powell saddles Nimbostratus and Paddy Gallagher puts the saddle on Jibber Jabber. The other likely contender is Going Global from the Phil D’Amato barn.

Saratoga Racecourse – Sunday, July 25

Grade 3 Shuvee – 1 1/8 miles dirt – $200,000

7 of the most talented distaff runners in the nation will lineup to contest the 1 1/8 miles Shuvee on Sunday. Chad Brown trained Dunbar Road figures to go off the chalk. Water White, Royal Flag, and Point of Honor should also attract betting dollars. Event though it won’t be a big field, the Grade 3 Shuvee should be a fantastic race.

A field of 10 should line up for the Forbidden Apple Stakes on Friday. The Grade 3 will attract at least three Chad Brown runners, Delaware, Sacred Life, and Value Proposition. There’s a good chance Sacred Life goes off the chalk. Corelli and Therapist will also attract action.

Saratoga Racetrack – Saturday, July 17

Grade 3 Sanford Stakes – 6 furlongs dirt – $150,000

Wesley Ward trained Headline Report figures to go off the favorite. Ward is a master at training 2-year-olds. Tom Amoss’ Ottaman Empire and Brendan Walsh trained Candy Landing should also have backers.

Grade 1 Diana Stakes – 1 1/8 miles turf – $500,000

At least seven four-year-old fillies and mares will head to the starting gate for the Grade 1 Diana on Saturday. Among the contenders is Charles Appleby trained Summer Romance and Althiqa, the second and first place runners in the Grade 1 Just A Game in their last. Chad Brown hopes Lemista and Pocket Square break up the Appleby duo.

Monmouth Park – Saturday, July 17

Grade 3 Molly Pitcher Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – $250,000

Right now, connections for ten horses plan on running their fillies in the Grade 3 Molly Pitcher. Among the runners, Mrs. Danvers, Vault, Gold Spirit, Horologist, and Royal Flag should attract the most action.

Grade 3 Monmouth Cup – 1 1/8 miles dirt – $300,000

The Monmouth Cup is Saffie Joseph Jr. trained Ny Traffic’s third race since the 2020 Preakness Stakes. The talented runner faces a strong field that includes Night Ops, American Dubai, Bankit, Bal Harbour, and Dr. Post.

Grade 1 United Nations Stakes – 1 3/8 miles turf – $500,000

Turf races for half-a-million in the United States are hard to come by, which is why thirteen horses entering the starting gate for the United Nations Stakes is a real possibility. Chad Brown figures to saddle three, Masterpiece, Tribhuvan, and Serve the King. Todd Pletcher has Winter’s Back, and Brad Cox puts the saddle on Arklow.

Grade 1 Haskell Invitational – 1 /18 miles dirt – $1,000,000

Three horses from the Triple Crown trail, Midnight Bourbon, Hot Rod Charlie, and Mandaloun will contest the Grade 1 Haskell. Mandaloun could end up this year’s Kentucky Derby winner if Churchill Downs disqualifies Medina Spirit. Midnight Bourbon and Hot Rod Charlie may contest for the lead.

Del Mar Racetrack – Saturday, July 17

Grade 2 San Diego Handicap – 1 1/16 miles dirt – $250,000

Some of the top rated handicap horses on the west coast will run in the Grade 2 San Diego. Bob Baffert will saddle two, Ax Man and Magic On Tap. Rushie, Royal Tap, and Express Train should also get some play.

Grade 3 Smile Sprint Invitational – 6 furlongs dirt – $200,000

Trainer Katherine Ritvo puts the saddle on Frosted Grace and Double Crown. Saffie Joseph Jr. runs Chance It while Patrick Biancone sends Diamond Oops to the gate. Miles Ahead and Shivaree are also likely.

Los Alamitos – Saturday, July 3

Grade 3 Los Alamitos Derby – 1 1/8 miles – $150,000

Trainer Bob Baffert looks for yet another Los Alamitos Derby on Saturday. The winningest Triple Crown horseman of all time, Baffert will saddle three, Defunded, Classier, and Hudson Ridge. Simon Callaghan trained Mr. Impossible and Doug O’Neil trained Ingest should also run. So should It’s My House, Back Ring Luck, and Mucho Del Oro.

Belmont Park – Sunday, July 4

Grade 2 John A. Nerud – 7 furlongs dirt – $250,000

Grade 3 Runhappy and Grade 2 True North winner Firenze Fire will lead a field of 7 into the starting gate for Sunday’s John A. Nerud Stakes. Fire should offer less than even money to win the 7 furlong sprint. Contenders include, Top Seed, Wind of Change, Three Technique, Doubly Blessed, American Power, and Mind Control.

Belmont Park – Monday, July 5

Grade 3 Dwyer Stakes – 1 mile dirt – $250,000

Shadwell Stable owned and Todd Pletcher trained Mahaamel may go off the favorite in what looks like a competitive Dwyer Stakes. The Into Mischief sired colt broke his maiden on June 4. Pletcher didn’t force the talented runner onto the Triple Crown Trail. So we shouldn’t be surprised if Mahaamel dominates his foes on Monday. Starryinmydreams, Gershwin, Ridin With Biden, Pickin’ Time, and Civil War should also run.

Del Mar Racing Picks for Friday, July 10

Race 7 – 8:00 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Richard Mandella trained 5-year-old mare Great Return has a real chance to grab first place in this tough $62,500 allowance optional claimer over the lawn. Mandella often releases his top runner at the Del Mar Meet. Not only that, but Great Return has a couple of wins and a couple of thirds from 4 races over the Del Mar sod.

Declaration of War sired 4-year-old filly Strike at Dawn picks up top rider Flavien Prat. Flavien should move the Richard Baltas trainee up a few lengths. If you’re not sold on Great Return, here’s one to consider backing.

Jockey Umberto Rispoli has shown a knack for getting winners home over the grass. Rispoli picks up the reigns on Simon Callaghan trained Maxim Rate. The 4-year-old filly lost her last race, which was at this level, by a head. If she improves, she’s another that can win.

Race 8 – 8:30 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $40,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Trainer Juan Leyva takes over St. Joe Bay’s training duties for John Sadler. Last year’s Grade 2 San Carlos winner at Santa Anita has 2 wins from 5 races over Del Mar’s dirt. St. Joe Bay can lead or stalk while Leyva must believe he can still run. The winner of over $738k is an 8-year-old horse, not an 8-year-old gelding.

4-year-old gelding Sash should get bet down to nothing. The Mark Glatt charge lost a 1 1/16 mile race at Santa Anita by just a neck in its last. The cut back in distance should help the cause and Flavien Prat thinks enough to ride.

Dreams of Valor goes for trainer Craig Dollase. Valor can either take the lead or track Sash. The ability to do either should give jockey Edwin Maldonado options after they break from the gate.

Race 9 – 9:00 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $100,000 Oceanside Stakes

Trainer Peter Miller does very well with horses he runs at Del Mar. He should have the winner of Friday’s Oceanside Stakes in 3-year-old gelding El Tigre Terrible. The Smiling Tiger sired runner has 3 wins, a second, and a third from 6 lifetime races. Tiger can either take the lead outright or lie right off.

Miller could grab the win money and the place money. In addition to saddling El Tigre Terrible, Peter also saddles City Zip sired gelding Silardi. The second choice broke its maiden in a 5 ½ furlong turf sprint on May 23. Silardi then won its first race against winners. Because City Zip sired, the stretch out makes a ton of sense.

Margot’s Boy had won 3 in a row before finishing third by half a length as the favorite in its last. Although Margot couldn’t keep the winning streak alive, the Clubhouse Ride sired gelding did fight back after being headed. Consider for all slots on your exotic tix.

Race 6 – 7:30 pm ET – 5 Furlongs Turf – $40,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Bob Baffert trained Speedy Justice looks like a lock. The Dominus sired 3-year-old colt broke it’s maiden at first asking going 5 furlongs over this turf course. Speedy Justice didn’t just break the maiden. The 7/2 on the morning line top choice dominated his competition by over 7 lengths.

Torosay could hang on for second. Doug O’Neil puts the saddle on the 4-year-old gelding sired by Goldencents. If jockey Victor Espinoza can get this one to relax, it could make things difficult for Speedy Justice.

Duplicity is another former John Sadler trainee that Juan Leyva takes over training duties for. Duplicity goes into this off a maiden win. But don’t be discouraged from backing to win if you like this one. A work on July 4 signals that Leyva has Duplicity ready to make it back-to-back victories. Consider for all slots on your exotic tickets.

Race 8 – 8:30 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $65,000 Wicker Stakes

Richard Mandella trained Voodoo Song was in over his head when trying the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile. Song drops into a stakes where the 6-year-old horse should compete. If the former Grade 1 winner goes off at the 4/1 morning line, we’ll consider ourselves lucky.

Big Score is another dropping from graded races to this $65,000 non-graded stakes. The Tim Yakteen trainee figures to go off the chalk on Saturday. Yakteen wins 20% with runners in non-graded stakes races. Big Score can score if Voodoo Song gets into a heated speed duel.

No doubt, Kiwi’s Dream will either press Voodoo Song or take the lead from the gate. The Victor Trujillo trained runner breaks from the rail. So, there’s a chance that if Voodoo Song doesn’t press early, Kiwi could wire this field.

Race 10 – 9:30 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $50,000 Maiden Special Weight

Hall-of-fame trainer Ronald McAnally puts the saddle on 15/1 on the morning line Red Diamond. There’s a reason we believe the Afleet Alex sired 3-year-old filly gets the job done on Saturday. First, McAnally stretches her from 5 ½ furlongs to a mile. Second, Red Diamond finished third by a length in that first 5 ½ furlong jaunt. Third…did we mention the 15/1 morning line?

Sweet Devils is 8/1 on the morning line. Mike McCarthy has had a good year. The trainer has won with 22-of-102 entrants. Jockey Juan Hernandez is winning at 30% for the year. If you like her, consider Sweet Devils for the top spot.

Nurse Goodbye’s rally came up just short in her last. Although the 3/1 morning line chalk can win this, too many price horses exits to make the Eric Kruljac trained runner our top choice. We’ll use on the bottom of our exotics.

Race 6 – 2:28 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $16,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

If 4-year-old filly Lookinlikeaqueen holds her 7/2 morning line odds, we should consider ourselves lucky. The Lookin At Lucky sired runner has an awesome 4-1-5 record from 17 races over the grass. She goes first time for Rohan Crichton. That’s a 35% winning move.

5/2 morning line favorite Dynatown figures to be difficult to beat. Mark Casse trains and she’s bred to love the turf. Surprisingly, the Speightstown sired runner has yet to get a victory over the sod. So, we’ll relegate to second.

For third, we’re going with Ghostly Beauty. Although she finished seventh as the favorite in her last, the Mike Maker trained 4-year-old filly figures to improve enough to get into the trifecta.

Race 9 – 4:00 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Azalea Stakes

Like Lookinlikeaqueen in Race 6, Don’t Get Khozy shouldn’t hold her 4/1 morning line odds in the Azalea Stakes. The Antonio Sano 3-year-old filly has 4 wins and a second in her last 5. She blasted her opponents in a 1-mile race at the $25,000 claiming level. After nobody grabbed her, Sano put her into a $75,000 optional claimer at 7 furlongs. She won that race by over 7 lengths. Just because this event has the word “stakes” in the title, it doesn’t mean Khozy forgets how to run and win.

Boerne will try to take these gate-to-wire. The 6/5 morning line chalk might if Khozy doesn’t fire. But the chances of that happening or close to zero. So, we’ll put the chalk on the bottom of our exacta.

The other Sano trained runner, Addilyn, could challenge Khozy for the victory. We like Don’t Get Khozy more, but Addilyn should finish in the trifecta.

Race 11 – 5:00 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Carry Back Stakes

There’s enough speed in this to set up 3/1 on the morning line With Verve. The Larry Bates trained, 3-year-old gelded son of Kantharos cuts back in distance from a mile to this 7-furlong distance. With Verve bounced in its last when finishing fifth by 6 ½ lengths. Jockey Edgar Prado is a hall of fame rider who figures to push With Verve’s go button at the perfect moment.

Double Crown won’t offer anything close to the 2/1 morning line. Don’t be surprised if horseplayers bet this one down to 4/5 or even 3/5. The Katherine Ritvo trained gelding can certainly win this. But the works haven’t impressed. We won’t place on top after seeing that work pattern. Still, we can’t leave Double Crown from the exacta.

Poe has a great work tab heading into this. If the Brethren sired 3-year-old colt runs as well as he’s worked, he can win. If you’re afraid of missing out, use in all slots on your exotic tickets.

Gulfstream Park Picks for Wednesday, July 1

Race 8 – 3:41 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf – $12,500 Claiming

20% winning trainer Mike Maker puts the saddle on Hoponthebusgus for the first time on Wednesday. The 6-year-old mare last raced in a $16,000 claiming event over the grass on Feb. 29. She finished tenth by 2 ½ lengths. Maker wins 32% when dropping off the claim, though. Also, although she finished tenth, she got a good enough speed rating to challenge in this.

If Paint the Corners comes with her “A” game, she should win by 2 to 3 lengths. The Tizway sired 7-year-old mare came with an awesome run in her last but came up short by a length. She could provide a similar run on July1.

Trilby goes first time after the claim for trainer Ruben Gracida. The 19% at the meet winning conditioner gets 17% winners first after the claim. Trilby won the last time she ran off a freshening. So, consider for the win if the top two choices don’t impress.

We’ll try and beat chalk Maserati Man with 7/2 on the morning line Gemo. The Gemologist sired 3-year-old colt finished second in a $50,000 claiming race in his last. When trainer Rohan Crichton and jockey Edgar Zayas pair up, they win at 22%. Gemo should be close enough to take over as they turn for home. The class drop is significant.

Kenny McPeek trained Beyond Green finished second to Frank’s First in his last race. That was at 7 furlongs. The cut-back in distance should aid this one and Beyond Green has enough speed to stick with the front runners.

Maserati Man will offer less than the morning line. The 2/1 chalk blew away $32,000 optional claimers going 6 furlongs in his last. But if Maserati was such a solid pick, why the class drop to open claiming? He’s a must use underneath. But it’s hard to have faith he repeats the last performance.

33% at the meet winning trainer Louie Roussel III saddles 5/2 on the morning line Vincitore. We dislike betting chalk, but the English Channel sired 5-year-old gelding should have no trouble handling these. Louie drops Vincitore from the $30,000 claiming to this $12,500 event. Vincitore should get the job done.

15/1 on the morning line Good Timing Man lost by 58 lengths in its last. The 4-year-old gelding goes back to turf on Wednesday, though. Man shouldn’t be close, but we can’t help but give this one an exacta shot because the turf races are so much better than the dirt races.

Spinning Kitten has a great shot to get into the trifecta. The Kitten’s Joy sired 4-year-old gelding has a win, a second, and a third, from 5 races at the distance. The jockey switch to Miguel Vasquez could help while Kitten figures to get a good trip breaking from post-position 7.

Race 6 – 2:28 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $16,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Jockey Emisail Jaramillo and trainer Gustavo Delgado pair up with 4/1 on the morning line Bahamian Prince. The 3-year-old gelded son of Bahamian Squall goes second time for Delgado, and heads back to the turf after racing in a $40,000 claiming event over the dirt on June 17. Delgado and Jaramillo have won 18% together at the meet. In the last 365 days, the pair have scored at 35% when they get together.

It’s difficult to understand why French Quarter offers an 8/1 morning line. The Shakespeare sired 9-year-old gelding has 4 wins from its last 6 races. Fausto Guitierrez is a decent trainer. Fausto’s lone first time claimer won. So, consider French Quarter for the victory if you’re not sold on Bahamian Prince.

Ronald Spatz trained Assertiko takes a big drop in class. Another Bahamian Squall sired gelding, Assertiko ran decently in the last on the grass. Gets a weight break because Joseph Trejos steps aboard and Assertiko has won its last two. Consider for all the slots on your exotic tix.

Race 8 – 3:30 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – $12,500 Claiming

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. reclaimed Keepsakekitten after the Kitten’s Joy 3-year-old colt finished fifth by 8 ½ lengths in his last. Saffie drops from $20,000 claiming to this $12,500 claimer. Joseph Jr. wins at 54% when he drops off the claim. The last time Keepsakekitten was with Saffie, he won 3-of-4 and finished second in the other race.

Verdict Is In could add some value to the bottom of the exacta. Trainer Bobby Dibona wins 33% with horses racing second time from his barn. Dibona is winning at 20% at the meet and this one has a 2-3-1 record from 9 races over the sod.

Trainer Amador Sanchez is 1-of-4 when he drops off the claim. Amador drops 2/1 morning line chalk Blazing Desire to this level from $20,000 after claiming the gelding off Mike Maker in its last. Blazing Desire could take these gate-to-wire. So, consider for the win slot if the odds drift above the morning line.

Race 9 – 4:00 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $25,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

At a 15/1 morning line, we can’t look past Kenny McPeek trained Miss Flying Sun. The last-out maiden winner could bomb against this field. McPeek wins 16% with maidens facing winners for the first time. Also, the way Miss Flying Sun dominated her competition in her first race on dirt implies she figured some things out. We’ll take a shot.

Trainer Joseph Taylor is 0-for-13 with 2 seconds and 2 thirds. Taylor could score his first victory of the Gulfstream Park Meet on Friday with 6-year-old mare Lil Miss Hotshot. The Jump Start sired runner has 5 seconds from her last 6 races. She did win the lone race where she didn’t finish second. If the odds are right, consider for the top spot.

Jockey Edgard Zayas will push Sammie Sunshine’s gas pedal from the outset and hope the First Samurai sired 5-year-old mare can take these gate-to-wire. Although that’s not likely, Zayas is a good enough jockey to ensure Sammie keeps the show money.
