Mexico Odds to Win the FIFA World Cup and Will They Move to Round of 16
From 1994 through 2018, Mexico found a way to stamp their ticket to the knockout stage. Few international soccer teams have had as much success as the Mexicans in the past thirty or so years without moving to at least the quarterfinals. But in 2022, El Tri is an underdog. Will Mexico make it eight straight Round of 16 appearances? Or is this the year the Mexican National Team takes a backward step and heads home after the group stage? Check out FIFA World Cup Odds on El Tri to win the World Cup and a second round prediction.

Mexico Odds to Win the FIFA Qatar World Cup
- Mexico +15000
The odds make Mexico one of the longest shots on the board. Sure, twelve nations offer higher odds than El Tri to win the World Cup, but none of those teams have come close to the success at the WC that Mexico has had.
El Tri has made it to the knockout stage in seven straight cycles. History says the Mexicans stamp their ticket to the Round of 16 again.
If that happens, who knows? This could be the year Mexico surprises with a march to the quarter-finals. Then if they make the quarter-finals, the semifinals, and the finals become a real possibility. The odds make Mexico more than playable.
Mexico shouldn’t offer more than +8000, which is what Switzerland and Senegal offers, to win the World Cup. If you want to back El Tri to pull off a shocker, know you’re getting more value than you should.
Why Mexico will move to the next round
El Tri dropped back-to-back qualifying matches to the United States and Canada last November. Knowing they had to pick it up to make the World Cup field, the Mexicans turned it on in their next 6 games.
El Tri beat Jamaica, Panama, Honduras, and El Salvador. The Mexicans drew 0-0 versus Costa Rica and the United States, meaning Mexico failed to give up a goal in both those games. When a team turn it on when it must, that team is much better than many believe. Mexico turned it on when it mattered most.
Why Mexico won’t move to the next round
This Mexican side isn’t good enough to finish second in their group. No doubt, Saudi Arabia is the worst squad in Group C.
But Argentina has a real shot to win the World Cup. Mexico won’t beat Messi and his mates. Mexico will also struggle against Robert Lewandowski and Poland.
Final Analysis – Mexico has a chance to finish second in Group C
During FIFA World Cup Qualifying, El Tri had to put their foot on the gas pedal late to ensure they notched their eight straight trip to the WC. Canada was dominating CONCACAF qualifying and the United States was a solid second best.
The fact Mexico turned things around so fast speaks to the quality of their roster. Not only that, but the best players are young, meaning it may have taken some time for El Tri to put it all together.
So far during the CONCACAF Nations League, Mexico has played excellent soccer, drawing with Jamaica in a 1-1 match in Kingston, and blasting Suriname 3-0. The Mexicans have become a solid group.
Lewandowski is fantastic, but overall, Poland’s roster isn’t as good as Mexico’s. So outside of Argentina, Mexico is the team to beat in Group C. Expect El Tri to punch their eighth straight ticket to the knockout stage.
