MyBookie’s Picks for the Top Winner 2024 Breeders’ Cup Classic
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile – Citizen Bull 10-1
The top race the Future Stars Friday card has a legit overlay in Citizen Bull.
Bob Baffert 2-year olds often dominate, which is why it’s strange that Citizen Bull is 10-1 and Baffert’s other runner, Gaming, is at 6-1.
The Bull looked fantastic when winning the Grade 1 American Pharoah over Gaming in the last.
Citizen Bull took the lead and then held off Gaming.
Morning line chalk East Avenue could be as good as advertised but Citizen Bull shouldn’t offer anything close to 10-1.
Pounce now if you can.
Breeders’ Cup Turf – Shahryar 10-1
For sure the Turf is loaded with some seriously talented runners.
Rebel’s Romance is the 5/2 morning line favorite based on the 5 wins out of the last 6 record.
It helps Rebel’s Romance’s cause that Charles Appleby trains for Godolphin.
Cristophe Clement trained Far Bridge has won two straight Grade 1 events.
Luxembourg runs for Aidan O’Brien.
Anything Aidan sends to the Breeders’ Cup is well meant.
But although the race is deep, Shahryar is the overlay and we love to bet overlays, right?
The Japanese have a strong BC contingent this year.
Shahryar might be the best of the bunch.
Rebel’s Romance beat Shahryar by 2 lengths at the Dubai Sheema Classic.
The top play in the Turf has a real shot of turning the tables on its rival on Saturday.
At 10-1, taking a shot on the classy Shahryar makes sense.
Breeders’ Cup Mile – Carl Spackler 6-1
Chad Brown doesn’t have a lot of runners at this year’s Breeders’ Cup.
One horse that has a real shot at BC glory is Carl Spackler, which offers excellent 6-1 odds to beat its Euro competitors.
Carl Spackler has won 6-of-7 at the distance.
The Brown trainee is on a 3-race win streak and has won two straight Grade 1 events.
Carl Spackler has really come into its own this year, which should give backers plenty of confidence.
Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile – Saudi Crown 5-1
On paper, front running Saudi Crown should have no shot.
The Brad Cox trained 4 year old faces a ton of early pace pressure but here’s the thing: Saudi Crown is the speed of the speed and drew post position 1, which could likely be a golden rail on Saturday.
All the other speed must decide to challenge Saudi Crown early or allow Saudi to dictate the pace and hope the top pick slows down.
Jockey Florent Geroux is a master on the front end.
So the thinking here is that few, if any, go right after Saudi at the break.
Gate to wire is a real possibility.

How to Read Horse Racing Betting Lines? Let’s Find Out
Reading horse racing betting lines is crucial for making informed wagers and maximizing your betting strategy.
Here’s a quick guide to help you understand how these lines work:
-
Odds Format:
Horse racing odds are typically displayed in one of two formats: fractional (e.g., 5/1) or decimal (e.g., 6.0).
Fractional odds show how much profit you can make on a bet relative to your stake.
For example, 5/1 means you could win $5 for every $1 wagered.
Decimal odds, on the other hand, represent the total return including your stake. -
Morning Line Odds:
These are the initial odds set by oddsmakers before betting begins.
They reflect the bookmaker’s expectations of a horse’s chances of winning and can change as more bets are placed. -
Post Time Odds:
These are the updated odds just before the race starts.
They can fluctuate based on betting activity, news about the horses, or other factors. -
Win, Place, and Show:
Understanding the types of bets is also key.
A “win” bet is for a horse to finish first, “place” is for second, and “show” is for third.
Odds can differ significantly between these options. -
Teasers and Exotic Bets:
Beyond standard win/place/show bets, you might encounter exotic bets like exactas (predicting the top two finishers) and trifectas (predicting the top three).
These can offer higher payouts but come with increased risk.

Which Horse has the Best Odds to Win the Breeders’ Cup
Previous Betting News
Midnight Bisou, Sistercharlie, Dennis’ Moment, and Bricks and Mortar all offer favorites odds to win their respective Breeders’ Cup races this weekend. Are those chalks worth backing? Check out information on every favorite in every 2019 Breeders’ Cup race!
2019 Breeders’ Cup Betting Favorites
- When: Friday, Nov. 1 & Saturday, Nov. 2
- Where: Santa Anita Park, Arcadia, CA
- TV: NBC Sports / NBC
2019 Breeders’ Cup Friday – Nov. 1
Juvenile Turf Sprint
- Time: 4:12pm EDT
- Age: 2 year olds
- Distance: 5 furlongs
- Surface: Turf
Betting Favorite: Four Wheel Drive +300
Sprint races on the turf are often the most difficult to handicap. In this case, Four Wheel Drive should make it easy for horseplayers. The son of American Pharoah has been brilliant in two straight races. His Grade 3 Futurity win at Belmont was absolutely breathtaking. Four Wheel Drive is one of the top chalks on Friday’s card.
Juvenile Turf
- Time: 4:52pm EDT
- Age: 2 year old
- Distance: 1 mile
- Surface: Turf
Betting Favorite: Arizona +250
Anything Aidan O’Brien sends to the turf has a shot of winning. When O’Brien sends the favorite to the grass, we had better pay attention! Surprisingly, Arizona looks vulnerable here. He shows up in what might be the most difficult race to handicap during the two days. Stay away from chalky in the Juvenile Turf.
Juvenile Fillies
- Time: 5:32pm EDT
- Age/Gender: 2 year old fillies
- Distance: 1 1/16 miles
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: Donna Veloce +300
There are plenty of ways to go in this year’s Juvenile Fillies, which means settling on Donna Veloce makes no sense. However, if the Simon Callaghan runner offers better odds than the +300 morning line, she’ll be worth a long look.
Juvenile Fillies Turf
- Time: 6:12pm EDT
- Age/Gender: 2 year old fillies
- Distance: 1 mile
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: Albigna +400
Albigna is hard not to like. However, this race is wide-open. At +400, she’s not worth a bet. The win in the Group 1 Qatar Prix Marcel implies she can run with these, though. So, if the odds float to +500, she might be worth backing.
Juvenile
- Time: 7:03pm EDT
- Age: 2 year old
- Distance: 1 1/6 miles
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: Dennis’ Moment +160
Dennis’ Moment is an ultra-vulnerable favorite at 8/5, or +160, odds. The Dale Romans trainee looked good in his last race, but the second choice, Baffert trained Eight Rings, won the Grade 1 American Pharoah over this track. Also, Maxfield has a huge shot at +300 odds.
2019 Breeders’ Cup Saturday – Nov. 2
Filly & Mare Sprint
- Time: 2:55pm EDT
- Age/Gender: 3+, fillies/mares
- Distance: 7 furlongs
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: Covfefe +190
If this were at 6 furlongs, Covfefe would be a lock. That extra furlong could be what keeps her from winning on Saturday. Beware backing her at short odds.
Turf Sprint
- Time: 3:33pm EDT
- Age: 3+
- Distance: 5 furlongs
- Surface: Turf
Betting Favorite: Eddie Haskell +450
What a wide-open race! Don’t accept short odds on any runner in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. That includes backing Eddie Haskell at anything less than +600, or 6/1.
Dirt Mile
- Time: 4:10pm EDT
- Age: 3+
- Distance: 1 Mile
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: Omaha Beach +160
It feels like odds makers have put too much emphasis on Omaha Beach’s Santa Anita Sprint Championship win, the horse’s prep for this. However, the chalk often wins the dirt mile while this year’s version came up short on talent. The Richard Mandella charge is a solid play.
Filly & Mare Turf
- Time: 4:54pm EDT
- Age/Gender: 3+, fillies/mares
- Distance: 1 ¼ miles
- Surface: Turf
Betting Favorite: Sistercharlie +175
What do we do with Sistercharlie? She’s on a 6-race winning streak. Her times haven’t been all that fast. Form always trumps time. That’s something to remember when handicapping these races. She’s not as solid of a favorite as Omaha Beach in the Dirt Mile, but she’s solid enough.
Sprint
- Time: 5:36pm EDT
- Age: 3+
- Distance: 6 furlongs
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: Mitole +225
The front runners should run a sub-21 second first quarter in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Mitole will have trouble holding off quality pressers and closers like Landeskog, Whitmore, Engage, and Firenze Fire.
Mile
- Time: 6:20pm EDT
- Age: 3+
- Distance: 1 Mile
- Surface: Turf
Betting Favorite: Circus Maximus +300
Usually, the turf mile is one of the most difficult to handicap races on the BC card. Not this year. Trained by Aidan O’Brien, the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp winner is as solid as it gets.
Distaff
- Time: 7:00pm EDT
- Age/Gender: 3+, fillies/mares
- Distance: 1 1/8 miles
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: Midnight Bisou +125
Like Sistercharlie, Midnight Bisou wins races, but she doesn’t post fast times. Will that pose a problem on Saturday? It could against a horse like Blue Prize. The chalk in the Distaff is vulnerable on Nov. 2.
Turf
- Time: 7:40pm EDT
- Age: 3+
- Distance: 1 ½ miles
- Surface: Turf
Betting Favorite: Bricks and Mortar +160
Winner of 6 in a row, Bricks and Mortar is looking for more than just a Breeders’ Cup Turf victory on Saturday. A win should sew up Horse of the Year honors. Magical scratched, which will make Bricks and Mortar an even heavier favorite in this. But, the Chad Brown chalk faces a tall task beating Old Persian, Charles Appleby’s runner. Beware taking anything less than the +160, or 8/5, odds.
Classic
- Time: 8:44pm EDT
- Age: 3+
- Distance: 1 ¼ miles
- Surface: Dirt
Betting Favorite: McKinzie +300
The jockey switch from Mike Smith to Joel Rosario will help. Code of Honor is the horse to back to win the Classic, though. Too much speed means McKinzie could get caught up in a duel. Plus, the favorite has yet to prove he likes to run at 1 ¼ miles.
2016 Breeders Cup Betting Winning Favorites
Previous Betting News
In horse racing, the Triple Crown races are the ones that garner most of the headlines, but if you want to talk about prize money and the best fields of horses, you need to talk about the Breeders Cup. The meet takes place every year in November, and unlike the Triple Crown events, it is not tied to a single track. The Breeders Cup is hosted at a different venue every year, and in 2016, it will be head to the place where the surf meets the turf: the famed Santa Anita track. What you get here is two days of the best horse races in the world, and this year sees it go on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5. There is a total of 13 races, all of which have huge purses on offer, but there is none bigger than the $6 million Breeders Cup Classic. Let’s take a closer look at the potential horseracing betting odds favorites in that one.
Here’s A Closer Look At The 2016 Breeders Cup Betting Winning Favorites
California Chrome
The Kentucky Derby winner is a bit of a rare breed in that he is still actively racing at 5 years of age. In this day and age, owners are usually quick to retire their horses after a Derby win, as they do not want to risk an injury that could put an end to the very lucrative stud fees on offer. California Chrome is still racing, and still wining big. After a big win in Dubai earlier this year, he became the richest American horse, with winnings of $12.5 million. It would not be a surprise to see him add to that amount next weekend. His last appearance in the Breeders Cup Classic came in 2014 when he finished 3rd.
Frosted
There are a lot of race pundits who believe that the Classic is going to essentially be a two-horse race between Frosted and California Chrome. Frosted is an incredibly talented horse, but also one that can infuriate. When he is on his game, he is truly majestic, but he has also made a habit of coming up short in the bigger races. He has had 18 career starts, which includes 6 wins, and a total of 12 finishes in the money. If he runs well next week, he should be in the money.
Hoppertunity
While not likely to be the first one past the post this coming Saturday, Hoppertunity has a legitimate shot at getting in the money. He has had 22 career races, and has finished in the money in 16 of those, earning over $3.5 million in the process. His last race came earlier this month, when he finished first at the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.
Melatonin
This is a horse that is something of a miracle, as it looked as though his racing days were numbered early in his career. Melatonin recovered from a very serious equine illness, and has gone on to become a real player in stakes racing, finishing in the money 11 times in 13 starts. He loves this track, and has won all 3 races he has run at Santa Anita this season.
